Tubby is not the answer!!!

He is right in front of our nose. Tim Jankovich of SMU.

Why would he leave? Let's be honest, it would be lateral. If he wants to leave and as long as he sustains success, he can hold out for something bigger.

I can dig that. Jank has gotten serious results in a short time.

Why would he leave SMU to come here?

Aye, there's the rub. SMU's bound to reward him financially.

They paid June Jones $3 million a year back when that was a lot of money.

We won't replace him until 2019 at the earliest. Most of the guy's we'd hire today will probably be out of reach or have failed somewhere else by then. There's simply no way to tell who the attractive hires are going to be at that point.

RE: Who Should Replace Tubby?
Jank came with Larry Brown as the Coach In Waiting. Left a HC position to take an AC position. He's recruited many of those guys - along with Larry's "connections". He ain't leaving SMU for here. Maybe UT if Shaka falls flat next year. Or, he could bolt this year since he's losing a lot from this team. What will be the biggest open job?

You guys are underrating the attractiveness of our job. Coaches know. For the RIGHT amount of money Jankovich would leave SMU in a heartbeat. Perfect for this job.

Who should replace Tubby?

I prefer an energetic and media savvy coach who loves and excels at recruiting and program promotion, possesses the willingness to mitigate his weaknesses, and do everything within the rules that advance winning. He (IMO) should run a defense and offense best fitting most Memphis area recruits (i.e., running and pressing like Louisville)

Sounds like the guy we ran off.

With all due respect to you, but...Aren't you glad "we ran him off"??? If not, this explains your disdain for Tubby and the constant "rue" from you. Certainly, we can agree that Josh was killing the program, RIGHT? Even if you personally liked him the way I did Larry Finch.

But to address your thought on josh...no he wasn't media savvy. He no longer excelled in recruiting. He also no longer excelled in program promotion, because he was taking shots at the fanbase and saying things like vacated wins and lowering the expectations hugely. He also had no ability to mitigate his weaknesses. He may have loved recruiting and wanted to follow rules. I'll give you those two, but none of the other things on Tiger1983's list, sorry.

I moved on and chose to continue to be a fan in a supporting way even after the school fired my friend Larry Finch.

I'm pretty sure he nuked it.

You kidding Keith? He would turn down doubling his salary to stay at VCU over Memphis? Not questioning your integrity but I find that hard to believe when it came down to it the man would say no. Richmond is not known as a great place to live either.

RE: Who Should Replace Tubby?
Said it many times when Josh was on the hot seat--DAN MAJERLE. He's got a helluva program going at GCU. They fight and scrap night in and night out. Pitino gushed about Majerle and his program when the Cards played in Phoenix in December. GCU led at the half and lost by 9.
