Brett Reed....hasn't been to the tourney; worse than JJ
Tim Fuller...out of basketball?
Keatts.....would have been awesome.
Steve Prohm...shot down by a few posters (because of lack of success at Murray State), but obviously would have been an awesome get.
Mike Rhodes....hasn't been to tourney; worse than JJ
John Gianninni....has been terrible since this time (sweet 16 previous year); worse than JJ
Andy Enfield....slam dunk hire.

A lot of other names mentioned by kind of thrown out. Looks like a lot of the guys we wanted would have been mediocre hires.

In defense of Rhoades, he was starting further back at Rice, which hasn't been to the NCAAs since the War of 1812, I think. I suspect he would have been fine here.

Don't really feel like rehashing this argument and getting a poster I have blocked all fired up, but we won 5 games the year before and had incoming freshman....Taylor and Baker. Whether we were worse than Rice or not; both teams were in terrible shape.

Agreed. I will give Giles that there is not a ton of evidence that Rhoades is a great coach at this point, but comparing his record at Rice to JJ's at ODU is anything but fair.

There is a difference in being a team in terrible shape and a program in terrible shape. We were the former, they were the later.

Really? Rice is about the only team in the conference who is as young as us, but I'd take our potential over their's all day, every day.

I would hope so since you have us in the Sweet 16 next year 03-lmfao

Enfield, Keatts, Prohm, Jones, Rhodes. In that order. You could switch R and J as the jury is still out. Enfield would be our coach right now if he hadn't won the NCAA game.

I said we have POTENTIAL for a Sweet 16 run and to be a Top 25 team. I still stand by that. I remember the "Blaine Taylor sucks" threads when Drew, BJ, Dahi, and VV were sophomores. I remember the same threads being rehashed when James, Finney, Hassell, and Carter were sophomores. The following two years treated us fans VERY well. So well, in fact, that some of you ONLY remember those years and think that's the norm instead of anomalies.

Hypothetically, who would be the ideal target after next year? Tired of these low ceiling hires and now that the program isn't in shambles would love a high-risk/high-reward choice.

Problem now is we are in a conference that isn't much better than the ones we used to poach. I had hoped CUSA would put us in a position to woo a CAA coach when the time came. Boy was I wrong.

He's not a cool young assistant, but John Becker at Vermont has had some decent success. I'd take a look at him.

None of us root for failure by ODU. We just expect the failures to come and have our expectations fulfilled.

There are absolutely fans that would rather lose to prove their point than win and be wrong. That part is certainly obvious.

I don't want us to lose, I want us to win and win Big.

I just realize JJ is never going to be that guy.

You keep burying your head in the sand though sweetie.

You've been wrong about jones being the answer since day one and you aren't man enough to admit it.

It is what it is.

Brett Reed had been to the NCAA's twice since the last time Jeff jones went.

He made it back to the conference finals again this year.

All of that at an absolute nothing burger patriot league school like Lehigh.

JJ has done nothing with far more resources.

My other choices were Keatts and Rhodes.

I'd still take any of the three of them over jones because of the job they COULD do with odu's resources and a player like trey Freeman.

I know you abhor logic but any of the three of them could make 1 nit in 4 years at odu. I have ZERO doubt of that.

Unless something catastrophic happens to the program, his job is safe. He deserves to get his behind heated up a little though.

That's the real danger to me and why I want him gone, he's gonna do just enough to keep his job but not nearly enough to earn it.

He didn't earn the odu job at American and he hasn't done anything of note in 4 years here to keep his job once his contract expires.

But to get what you want, a new head coach, they'll need to really suck it up next year. And I know you've mentioned that his mediocrity will be good enough to never get canned but next year is your chance.

The only other way I see him leaving is if Wood takes another gig. The new AD will want to hire his own guy.

Not taking sides in this debate, but it's interesting to note that with a slight shift in the committee's thinking in 2015 and three more points against Middle Tennessee in last year's CUSA final, ODU would have two NCAA trips in the past three seasons without changing the quality of the seasons. To what degree would that change the way we're looking at JJ today? Presumably we'd all be pissed at how the season ended, but would it be "**** happens, we're still in good shape" or "we got here on smoke and mirrors and now we're being exposed?"

1 at large and 1 auto, Jones would be extended already and no one would take this thread seriously.
