The irony of a 3rd rate minor league team doing a promotion to complain about a Coach calling Greensboro too small time for the expanded ACC.

I think it just made Boeheim's point.

So it's a third rate minor league baseball team talking about a third rate minor league athletic program?

Actually they were talking about the HOF coach but anywho...
that so called minor league program that has one of the largest basketball fan bases out there and the record for the largest attended home game this season...03-lmfao

South Carolina fans brag about attendance because they can't win championships.

I guess it's true that Syracuse is a second rate Yankee version of Columbia.

Given this run Syracuse is making in the tournament I think use old small time ACC traditionalists best keep our mouths shut and take our medicine.

Sorry to inform you...I'm not going to defend Boeheim's etiquette (I think he talked out of turn but he was essentially correct) but I don't take insults from a fan who doesn't even care about basketball and just wants to take cheap shots.

of course boeheim hankers for the tournament in new york ...

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE

Right, which is also why the North Carolina schools want it in Greensboro.

I'm just saying as someone who has personally experienced both atmospheres, it's absolutely no contest.

Now, Brooklyn is not Manhattan and that has to be acknowledged. Also, no matter what the ACC does, it can't match the sheer magic the Big East had at MSG because there were so many colleges in and around New York City.

I mean you have "the worlds most famous arena" located in the cultural capital of this country, and you had seven or eight schools within an easy drive of it. It's basically like the only legitimate argument for Greensboro but located in an interesting place.

It was just magical – there's no other way to say it. Easily the best tournament in college basketball. It's not even worth debating. It's like arguing over who is the best coach in the NFL. There is a very clear answer and everyone else is playing for second.

I am telling you that from my house they are almost identical drives. Literally, there is a SEVEN minute difference from my house to the Barclay Center and Greensboro Coliseum.

Seven minutes.

My argument is not geography based, it's experience based.

And based on my personal experience at both places, I just can't understand the debate? It's just insanely myopic to favor Greensboro over New York because that's what you did in 1971.

The ACC of 2017 isn't at all like it was back when David Thompson was thrilling people by dunking the basketball.

I'm a traditionalist which is why I don't favor permanently leaving Greensboro. I think that in deference to that tradition, they should go back every five or 10 years. However, as a regular host it makes no sense.

Boeheim can be a jerk and he is especially pissy after he loses. However, he happens to be right in this instance.

Maybe that makes me an ungrateful interloper or a no good mouthy Yankee who doesn't know his place or whatever other goofy bullshitt people want to say. I truly could not care less. It's just common sense whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

LOL

One basketball championship won 13 years ago and a football championship won 57 years ago.

Meanwhile in 2017 we are dealing with a basketball program that can't win a game in the ACC tournament and is .500 in basketball against a program that puts little emphasis on hoops in Clemson, and a football program that is 9-24 in conference play despite all the hubris from their fans.

Does that make you proud that you historically put so little emphasis on hoops, to the point that you have won only two NCAA tournament games in the past 25 years, that all those extra resources have only gotten you exactly one more national championship in football than Syracuse in 120 years of play? Or do you want to start counting up your golf and soccer championships and compare them to Syracuse's other national title numbers?

Syracuse has tradition in a breadth of sports that Clemson and Pitt, and most other schools, simply don't.

Ha! I used to do the same thing at Madison Square Garden for the BET back in the day.04-cheers

Me too.

Me three.

Here's a great story from my youth. I was in Grade 6 and was in a science class whenever another student knocked on the door and told my science teacher that the Phys Ed teacher needed to see me immediately. He told me to bring my things.

Everyone made the "Oooooooooo" sound – Including my science teacher.

I was a little bit nervous, trying to figure out what the hell I had done and why I was being summoned to the gym?

Well, I get to his office and he asked me if I knew why he called me down? I told him I had no idea? He then asked me if I liked college basketball – And I told him I LOVED college basketball, and he knew that because he was my coach.

Then, he asked me to move a box from one corner of the office to another. I happily obliged but had no idea what was going on.

Then, he opens up the door to a large room that I had no idea even existed and it looked to be a lounge type area – I'm sure it was the teachers lounge.

He then tells me that if I want I can stay and watch some basketball or I can go back to class – it was my choice. I look in the room and basically all of my friends were sitting in there watching the Big East Tournament!

Not exactly a tough decision.

I will never forget it – it was Syracuse versus St. John's. We stayed in that lounge area for the rest of the day until the end of school just watching college basketball and talking about basketball. It remains one of my favorite memories growing up. I still stay in touch with that teacher and have told him many times over the years how much I appreciated that kind gesture.

You couldn't do that nowadays. Nowadays that would be considered creepy or inappropriate or anti-academic or something goofy like that. When in reality all it was was a nice man doing something nice for a bunch of good kids whom he knew loved basketball.

Basically, the best of the Big East and the ACC merged and we both have to sacrifice some of our long cherished traditions. However, the flipside to that is that we also get to build new traditions.

If MSG were to ever become available, I would adamantly push for it to be a permanent host even though I know it will never again be what the old Big East was for decades. However, it is still way better than anything most ACC fans have ever experienced just like a game at Cameron Indoor Stadium is a better road environment than anything most Big East fans have ever experienced.

Times have changed and we would be ridiculously foolish if we were to fail to take advantage of those opportunities.

The ACC added schools like Syracuse at least in part to have a presence in New York. Why on earth would you then refuse to take advantage of that opportunity you worked so hard to create? Because you don't want to piss off the Ford dealers of greater Mecklenburg County or some other dumb bullshitt?

There are definitely issues but the conference is going to have to deal with but this one should not be one of them. If you want to play there every seven or eight years in deference to the tradition of the conference, I guess. However, otherwise, it should be in New York, Washington DC and Atlanta. However, it should mostly be in New York City.

Syracuse and Pitt are lucky the ACC rescued them from that second rate basketball conference and finally moved them into big time basketball.

The ACC now stretches to the Great Lakes and from Boston to Miami.

It ain't your Grandpappy's old NC based conference any longer.

That conference is dead and gone, replaced by its current configuration.

It was the ACC's choice to expand and the ACC's choice to hold the tournament in New York.

If you don't like that, direct your ire to the school presidents and the ACC offices, not the newer member schools.

You try to be nice and offer someone a helping hand when they are in a desperate situation and they want to complain that you reached out with your right hand instead of your left.04-jawdrop

That ACC hand was also out for more cash from ESPN for adding new members.

It wasn't so much an act of kindness as it was an act of necessity and survival.

B-I-N-G-O... and Bingo was his name-oh...

Yeah, that's completely crazy to be taking shots at Syracuse whenever they've won a football and a basketball national championship. Who else has done that in this league?

Even take Clemson and how great their football program has become. It's a great program, there's no doubt about it.

However, if you took a list of the greatest players Clemson has ever produced in FOOTBALL and compared it to Syracuse's all-time team, it's absolutely no contest. And that's in football!

Obviously, Clemson is much better right now and the Tigers have a wonderful tradition as well. I would never disrespect their proud history. However, to diminish Syracuse's history and tradition is just flat out absurd. It's just poorly informed and anyone who expresses that level of idiocy should not be taken seriously when expressing other views.

Actually, if you include Pre-NCAA Tournament Helms National Championships, there are three conference schools that have both: Syracuse, Pitt, and Notre Dame.

If you look for schools with Final Four appearances and National titles in football, you have Syracuse, Pitt, ND, Georgia Tech, and Florida State. In other words, none of the original members (unless you count Maryland).

Oh, OK. It's all about the present now. Tradition and history no longer matter. I didn't realize that. I thought tradition was still as important to you folks as it is to me.

OK, cool. Then I guess your football players can stop touching that little goofy stone and running down the hillside. It's all about the here and now, baby! We don't have time to honor silly traditions from decades ago.

Helms "championships" are completely bogus. They were awarded years after the fact by a bread company. NIT championships were often considered more prestigious than NCAA championships back in the 1950s and earlier but Helms never meant anything.
