Rice / UTEP - men's basketball thread
Thought I would start this a little early. I looked back at the box score from the previous Rice/UTEP game and wanted to pass along one observation.
3-pt shooting: Rice was 8/29 (27.6%) and UTEP was 9/14 (64.3%). On the season, Rice is shooting 39.0% and UTEP is shooting 34.8%. If both teams had shot at their normal 3-pt percentages, but had taken the same number of shots, that would have resulted in 3 more makes for Rice and 4 fewer makes for UTEP. Even if UTEP has some advantage that keeps Rice shooting below their season average, I think there is a good chance that UTEP will not shoot as well. Any improvements by Rice in 3-pt shooting or 3-pt shooting defense significantly narrow (or eliminate) the scoring gap from UTEP's previous 79-71 win.
Hopefully the Owls come prepared to play hard and with a tweaked game plan. Go Owls!

We need Egor to regain his shooting touch (though he's certainly contributing in many other areas). One of the positives from yesterday was that Marcus Jackson was as assertive and aggressive offensively as he's been all season. He needs to continue to do so as it helps ease the defensive pressure on Evans and Egor.

MT up by 20 on UTSA in the waning minutes.
Looks like the road to the championship will go through MT for the Owls (as expected).

What an awful start-- no answer for the big guy down low (4 points, 3 offensive rebounds), and missing open 3s on our end.

Slow starts must be an integral part of Rice strategy.

We're 0-4 offensively. Down 0-9, with the big guy with 6 points, 4 offensive boards and 2 blocks. Fortunately, he just picked up his 2nd personal.

Looks like the game at Tudor as far as our shooting goes thus far. Have to rebound.

MLE has made a couple threes, which is keeping us in the game

Letcher-Ellis has hit three straight 3's from the exact same spot. He has all 10 of our points.
