NY Times is the Gold Standard, yes?

In the same way that NAFTA is the "gold standard of trade deals". 05-stirthepot

NY Times is the Gold Standard, yes?

It's high up there, but the article is not about anyone tapping the phones, etc. at Trump Tower.

Quote:It is not clear whether the intercepted communications had anything to do with Mr. Trump’s campaign, or Mr. Trump himself. It is also unclear whether the inquiry has anything to do with an investigation into the hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s computers and other attempts to disrupt the elections in November. The American government has concluded that the Russian government was responsible for a broad computer hacking campaign, including the operation against the D.N.C.
Intercepted Russian Communications Part of Inquiry Into Trump Associates

But at least we see now who gets their marching orders from the gateway pundit...lol

From another board.

If Trump wasn't "wiretapped" - the GOP has to invoke the 25th amendment, right? I mean it would prove he's nuts wouldn't it?

Thoughts? We always knew he was a liar but what is a bridge too far for the spin room?

I'll answer that. A bridge too far occurred several years ago when the U.S. gov't racked up $10 trillion in new debt over 8 years. That is a bridge too far. I don't care for Trump tweeting like an idiot TBH. I have no clue if this is real or if it's fake. There has been so much disinformation - from both sides - that all of us are seeing what Washington is truly all about. Mach, you and Tom are all geeked over the idea that Trump may be on his way out the door for corruption. Take a step back from that idea. If those ties were so clear and obvious before the election - AND OBAMA KNEW ABOUT IT - then why wasn't all the info put out there for us to see so that we KNEW exactly how bad the supposed Trump ties to Russia were? I heard some silly ass excuse that "we didn't want to interfere with the election".

Seriously? Bullsh!t. As commander in chief, you CANNOT sit back idly with info just so that there isn't an appearance of meddling. I think we are all mature enough adults to know that if the evidence was clear and obvious - it should have been disseminated to us. Who cares if you burn a source if it prevents a Manchurian candidate from become president. Right??? JFC all of you people are fvcking fruitcakes. Dem supporters and GOP supporters alike on this forum.

Seriously, a whole bunch of you are fvcked up people. There is a lot of team over country thinking from both sides. Grow up, morons.

First off, you can't put that 10 trillion in a vacuum like it was just something that happened when a liberal snapped his fingers. There's way more too it than that and I think you know that.

But there's no way in hell that holding back due to being seen as interfering in the election was a "silly ass" excuse. Obama, just like everyone else was pretty sure that Hillary was going to win. If he would have released stuff that close to an election with the way Trump twists facts, he would have been vilified up and down. Sure it's easy to say now that he screwed up, but it was not that easy at the time.

And you're wrong that I want Trump thrown out the door for some partisan political happiness quotient. I'd much prefer he start acting like a damned president for more than just an hour every month. The damage Pence will do will likely be much worse. That being said, if he's dirty, I want him convicted. But it won't be anything for anyone to be excited about because it's terrible for our country and will be disastrous on the world stage. You think Putin is happy now. He'll go through the roof with excitement if that happens.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper denied in an interview Sunday President Trump's claims that there was a court-ordered wiretap of Trump Tower prior to the 2016 election.
Clapper, who served as the head of the intelligence agency under former President Barack Obama, said he would have known about a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court Act (FISA) order if one existed, he told NBC's Meet the Press.
"There was no such wiretap activity mounted against the president, the president-elect at the time, or as a candidate, or against his campaign," Clapper told NBC's Chuck Todd.
Todd pressed him to confirm or deny the President's claims. "I can deny it," Clapper said.

Clapper?!?! You are going to trot out confirmed liar Clapper as some sort of supporting evidence? Even you aren't that stupid Mach. Clapper has ZERO credibility and honestly should have served time for perjuring himself before Congress.
[/quote]

On top of that (and I'm not going to look it up because Clapper is worthless), Clapper did throw in a "to the best of my knowledge" in his denial statement.

First off, yes I can. If you want the highest office in the land, you need to deliver - period. You want it, you got it. Fix it. The end.

Second, that's no excuse. If there is any risk - remote it may be - that a compromised (Manchurian candidate) candidate could win the presidency...it needs to be dealt with immediately. IDGAF what Obama's OPINION was on who will win - do your goddamned job.

I seriously doubt they had any evidence that would have rose to the level of Manchuria.

But you're right...we could have held the debt limit and defaulted...and let the auto industry go belly up...and let the banks crash. That would have solved so much...but hey...the debt would not be as high, AMIRITE? 01-wingedeagle

I'll agree with Tom on this one...

But this one Tom?

Uhm.. HELL NO to this one.

You know why they held back? Because if Hillary had won, they wouldn't have a thing come out about any of this at all. (again, I'm still on the fence bout whether or not the whole wire-tapping was legal or not at all.. I'm leaning toward no. (again, the initial request seems legit but it was too broad) .and I haven't figure out what the second approved one was actually for (something about a Russian bank?)

My biggest issue right now is that they never apparently turned off the wiretapping after the expiration of the warrant (If I read this right)

I'm just a bit confused, about trying to figure out where the original portion of this leak to the media came from; especially since most of the leaks about this have been an attempt to try to derail Trump, while this has seemed to have the opposite effect, and hurt Obama more than anything.

Good post miko.

And even if we assume that Obama, for reasons pure as the driven snow, had decided not to release damning information on Trump because of possible negative blow-back, think how simple it would have been to have sent the info to wikileaks for publishing.

You know they'd have published it.

Seeing America's election cycle in chaos is right up their alley mission-wise.

I don't watch a lot in the afternoon---but Shep Smith used to be a reasonably solid anchor. When did he decide he wanted to be a shrill MSNBC grenade thrower? He's literally become unwatchable. lol....I love that Levine is a conspiracy theorist, but the idea that Trump is a Russian spy/puppet is mainstream.

As Andrew McCarthy points out: Suddenly all this evidence tying Trump to Russia doesn't exist because there was never any investigation!!!! It really is funny.
