Has any school dominated a conference by winning it four major championships ?
Trying to get an historical perspective on this. Has any school won all of its conferences major team championships in the same year?

Know this is not a big national story, but UND has won the regular season championships of fb, vb, mbb, and wbb, the main spectators sports in the Big Sky, all in this school year. That hasn't been done in Big Sky history, even when Boise St, Nevada, and Idaho were members. Granted, shared the fb title with E Wash and share wbb with Montana St and those UND teams weren't dominating games except vb.

Would think that Florida, Ohio St, Oklahoma, UCLA, and maybe N Carolina and Louisville have done something similar. Feel free to substitute another sport like baseball for vb.

Those four sports aren't even UND's main revenue sport, which is the reigning national championship hockey team. Many of those teams are sophomore dominated, so we should be dominant for some more years at the mid-major level.

If using those 4 sports (FB, VB, MBB, and WBB), Missouri State came close twice.

1989-90, Football, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball champions, Volleyball third place
1990-91, Football, Women's Basketball, Volleyball champions, Men's basketball second place

The FB at Mo St is most surprising. Has Wichita St had been a four-plex conference, substituting baseball for football?

Football program actually was pretty decent up until 2005. Normally a middle of a pack program, 6-5 or 5-6 team. Those were our last two I-AA playoff teams.

I doubt it. Wichita State had some lean years in the 90s.

I know Arkansas Tech won championships in football, men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball. Tech came close a few times in football in the NAIA, won several NAIA baseball championship, came close in the men's basketball playoffs, and won the NAIA women;s basketball championship in 1991-1992 which is one of the years the baseball team won. That is how good the Tech's athletics been at all levels.

Maybe the FCOA helps more than thought. UND is the only FCS Big Sky school that offers it to all scholarship athletes.

In the 2006-07 school year, Ohio State was the regular season Big Ten champion in football, men's basketball, women's basketball, and baseball, but the women's basketball team finished second in the Big Ten tournament. A professor I worked for told me that when he was a student at the University of Utah (which I think was sometime in the 1970's), that the Utes had been regular season champions in those four sports as well.

This is a great topic. The kind of thing to discuss during the summer, after baseball ends; waiting for football practice to start. I am going to enjoy following this.

Enjoy it! You won't see that kind of success in the Summit & MVFC. 03-thumbsup

That argument could only work if the majority of your players were coming from the areas that the regular Big Sky teams recruit. I doubt it.

Guessing the majority of your starting 22 in fball, top 6-7 minute players in bball's, and top 6 minute players in vball are coming from the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. As much as you like to think and say otherwise. (you especially love to talk up Canadian players, I know)

Well, that will just keep increasing as you start playing the Dakota 4 in every sport, every season. As that's where those teams mainly recruit.

The way NDSU has stunk up the courts the last month and Saturday, NDSU as a 2 seed was a joke. Their vb and wbb are now barely NAIA level. But technically, NDSU qualified for a quadfecta with fb, mbb, w soccer, and W softball, if you really dig. Those women's sports probably get more attendance than wbb, but they are free admission.

USD has been the bb school on the rise. Omaha looks like it has weapons too. Those were the traditional bb teams UND had to beat in DII, as well as SDSU and Mankato. Prior to our new hockey arena, we weren't a one sport school. Its nice to get back to that.

I didn't say anything about NDSU. But you feel free to continue digging at it with every post. Just proves UND should've always been with NDSU from 2003.

Both the South Dakota schools, especially USD, have made great strides. The Dakota 4 are a tough block, and give a lot of opportunities to Dakotas, Minn, and Wisc athletes who get overlooked by the Big Ten, and more and more the northern part of the old Big 8 areas as well.

Looked up that year on wiki and tOSU didn't win baseball that year, but they did win men's volleyball in 2007 in their eastern conference and B1G men's gymnastics in both 2006 and 2007. But those seem hardly like the fourth revenue sports for the BIG. A trifecta in mbb, wbb, and fb is extremely impressive, nevertheless.

What has USD made great strides in that the other South Dakota school has not?

This is the first year they have finished above .500 in Men's BB since joining the league. And they still can't get by SDSU when it counts. SDSU's Men's and Women's basketball programs, along with NDSU in Men's are the elite programs in the league. The USD Women's BB has been solid but when push comes to shove, it is still SDSU winning the big games and it is still SDSU who have the national reputation.

I think USD has improved and they were a good addition but I don't see them as a model school. I think UND will jump them pretty quickly in most sports. I'm also pretty sure SDSU has won the President's all sports cup most years we have been eligible.

As for UND's accomplishments in the BSC. It is one reason I'm happy they are coming over to the Summit. The league is solid and bringing on UND make it better. USD were a bottom feeder when they arrived, UND will not be.

I was thinking along the lines of new facilities, improving campus enrollment, things like that. USD was way behind the other three, not that long ago.

I was in no way digging SDSU athletics, come on. SDSU obviously has made huge improvements too. That's why I said both. But USD was just so far down.

As an Aggie this pains me to post it, but I had to look up some of our rivals, and this was the closest I could find.

1995-1996, final year of Southwest Conference:
Longhorns Volleyball - 28-7, 10-0 in conference
Longhorns Football - 10-2-1, 7-0 in conference
Longhorns Men's Basketball - 21-10, 10-4 in conference (3rd place) - however won regular season and conference tourney previous year
Longhorns Women's Basketball - 21-9, 13-1 in conference (tied regular season)
Longhorns Baseball - 39-24, 17-7 in conference (regular season champion)

UND just pulled off the 2016-17 Big Sky "Grand Slam" (FB, VB, MBB, WBB) ...

while being the reigning (2016) NCAA DI men's ice hockey champions.

In 1990 Georgia Southern won the Div I-AA National Championship in Football, made a College World Series appearance and won the conference in baseball and if I remember correctly won like 25 games and the regular season conference title in Men's Basketball.

Congrats on the banner year in the Big Sky!

As I mentioned before to NoDak, I think you'll find it much harder to achieve the same level of success in those four sports in the Summit and MVFC.
