I would imagine there are other ADs that are also frustrated. Sadly it's a more significant inconvenience for NIU since we are much further from the rest of the schools in the conference and the drive to Dekalb can be beyond brutal on a weeknight. The conference is heavily Michigan/Ohio tilted so my guess is that our complaints fall on relatively deaf ears anyway.

These are the types of decisions that drive schools to join (or exit) conferences. The decisions made by the MAC are in theory a representation of its membership base. NIU isn't the only team that got a short stick here. Every rivalry and meaningful game in the conference this year has been slotted for TV. Kent / Akron, CMU / WMU, BG / Toledo, Miami / Ohio, etc.

If anything NIU made out slightly better than some of the others with the Thursday slots and I personally think CBS puts out a better product than ESPNU / ESPN3 these days. At least they don't use the broadcast as a three hour infomercial for the College Football Playoff.

Even though the NFL has taken a hit lately and sooner or later they may shift from Thursdays, playing on Thursday night against the NFL is not really that nice of a draw.

For a while their were rumors that NIU may go the Big12 or the AAC. Maddawg would always says how the AAC would be a lateral move. When and if they come knocking and we get the invite, we need to exit quickly. There's only one way up and it ain't in the MAC.

The hard truth is that as NIU stands now, it doesn't belong in the MAC or the MWC for that matter. We need to get our terrible states finances in order, we need to increase our student body, and we need to PLAY GAMES ON SATURDAY. We could probably get to the AAC quicker if we joined CUSA first (sun belt is too far south). The MAC is the worst conference in FBS football, and maybe not talent wise (though you could certainly argue that too), but definitely scheduling wise and the ability to grow and sustain a fanbase.

With 12 teams, I'll give you a Tuesday and Wednesday night game but the other 4 games should be on Saturday. There should be another stipulation that a school should only have to play two midweek games and the others should be on the weekend.

+1 love this idea that way it's fair for everyone

To make this happen you would probably have to give tv the option to flex a game or two each week. That would also stink since if NIU was doing well they would likely always be flexed. It would be better than guaranteed weekday games, though.

Maybe the MAC should just disband to void the ESPN contract and all the conference members go independent for a year or two, just playing their scheduled OOC games and play each other as independents as usual, then form a new MAC. I have no idea of the financial implications--exit fees, ESPN contract terms, other factors. Have to do something.

RE: New Football Schedule
The MAC has ZERO Saturdays and 4 weekdays with 3 games in a day in the last 5 weeks. How does this help the individual teams in the conference when you are going against 1 or 2 other games in your own conference you are recruiting against? Do we get more money now to throw away all Saturdays? I mean what other conf gives up EVERY Saturday game down the stretch? Does ESPN get that much more money by having 2-3 games at once, making so much that CBSSN wants to be involved? Seems like it.

There are a lot of schools in this conference that the $ makes a greater difference to than NIU. Their attendance Sat vs. weekday may be minimal. But this exposure some schools get on weekdays is all they get going up against a UM, MSU and OSU. So they'll take it. But I don't see how weekday MACAction his helping NIU recruting vs. the rest of the MAC and financially internally.

Minimal pay for any type of football to give sports fans and bettors something watch once baseball ends and before college basketball begins I guess. I didn't before, but I now firmly believe this is costing NIU in the long run. The 800k a year in the long run may not be best, at minimum not as valuable to NIU as others.

$60's cheap, if you can go to the games, $60 is expensive when you pay and know you can't go.

Yep I think people would rather pay 120 and attend games than pay 60 and get nothing

That money is nothing compared to other conferences. That money does not offset the loss of fans who would show up. Watching a game on TV at a 75% empty stadium does not make HS players think "damn I need to go there"

This is why as much as I hate to say it , NIU would be better served by an AD who loves the university and plans to spend time here. The reason guys like Frazier and Compher don't work to build fan bases is because they only plan to be here a few years. We need someone invested in the university and not just themselves

Where has it gotten us by hiring ADs who are looking to move right away and really are not invested in the future of the program? We are headed toward the 90's, that should be plain to see

Do you honestly think Frazier or Compher are/were any different than any other AD? Every mid major AD has one eye on a better job at some Point. Before you blast Frazier try taking a look around the MAC, not just dekalb. It's no different. It's like half of the crazies here expect NIU to always get the Jordan Lynch of ADs. And the Jordan Lynch of coaches. You all want the top guy for a steal because everyone missed getting him but the Huskies(obviously we are smarter and better than others). We have average ad money. Average coach money. You get average ads and coaches with that money. NIU is not special to anyone but the few fans who's expectations are way beyond the realities in front of their faces.

Well the fact you guys are satisfied with the state of this program says a lot about your expectations, If you are happy with the D3 route Frazier is wanting to take NIU, you better darn well not argue when our homecoming game is against Illinois State every year.
