Trivia

Where was the first Final Four played? Should be easy to figure out, not needing any research.

Thats kind of a trick question depending how you interpret it. It might be easier to ask where was the first NCAA men's basketball national championship game.

Not meant to be one. I know it was an Elite 8 for years before all the regional champs met at one last stop. I wasn't trying to be tricky.

Mind blowing they'd hold it at Welsh-Ryan Arena of all places.

In DII and DIII, they still have eight regions of eight teams, so the finals are an elite eight. DI needs three weekends for TV.

Eh, I'm not too surprised. Back in 1939 it's not like they had a huge arena in every major American city like today, so choosing a gym in a major American city relatively close to the geographic center of the US made sense. And it's not like the demand for tickets was all that high back then anyways.

Good for Northwestern. They have a pretty young team, they ought to be a force to be reckoned with in the Big Ten for a few years at least.

Actually, it did require some research. Took me about a half hour to find it.

The first true Final Four format appears to have been played in 1952, at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion in Seattle.

The previous year was the first to expand from 8 teams to 16. But it didn't have a Final Four with semifinals played at a common site. It had two 8 team regionals, with only the regional champions moving on to the final game. There were four teams at the Finals site (Williams Arena in Minneapolis), but the semifinals were played at the regional sites. The semifinal losers played a consolation game in Minneapolis.

I found that site quickly in my search, but it didn't answer the question about which site that hosted the finals was the first to host both semifinals and final (and only those games) at the same site. Early on when there was only one site, all 8 teams played, not just the final four.

Look whose finally Dancing.

I think it'd be cool if they won the national title in their first trip. What a story and they'd have the highest NCAA Tournament win percentage with a minimum of 5 games.

If they won that would make Nebraska the only original D1 school to never win a torunament game.

You mean former BCS conference member. There are still many who haven't gotten to the grand stage, such as Army, William & Mary and St. Francis of NYC.
