this conference is low minor bad
that's why UC lost at SMU and dropped 8 slots in the polls. Any other top 12 team loses on the road in conference (esp to a ranked team) and they drop maybe three or four spots (see Wisconsin last week).
We are legit Low minor bad: one or two good teams, and a bunch of scrubs. It's going to KILL the seeding of UC and SMU in the ncaa.
SMH
At least if UCONN, Memphis, and Temple (the only other teams with a pedigree and that act like they give a rats about hoops were good/ranked, people would AT BEST say the AAC is top heavy, like the old CUSA days (UC, UofL, Marquette, Memphis) but we don't even have that now. We are like the WCC (Gonzaga and St. Mary's and then a bunch of no name scrubs but we aren't even that good because nobody in the conference is as good as Gonzaga)
Basically we are a poor man's WCC right now.
Unreal.
Football looks good today and is causing I believe false hope. We are still near to the recent shift (P5/G5 split whereby power schools are getting $30mil/yr a piece and we are getting $2mil/yr or worse). The AAC is good in football and has held its own. The crowds have been good, the ratings good etc. This is causing many of you to think that we just need to hold and and it will all come around down the road (money, tv deal, basketball, etc.). I think that is fools gold thinking now.
The more years that pass and P5's, even crap ones make $30mil + and we all make peanuts is another year towards the end game which is, G5 becoming the new FCS. This talk of the G5 playoff is only the beginning and points to that as well. When that happens, football is over for us, at least as we know it now. It becomes 'second rate' in the minds of the nation at that point, just like the current FCS is now. When that happens, and it will, the only major sport we have left that still can compete on the national level is men's hoops.
That's why I'd like to see UC and UCONN, plus whoever else (Temple, Memphis) get to the Big East in hoops. This way, when the football bus turns into the football short bus for us all, we are still at least competing in a big boy conference in hoops.
i know this thinking looks stupid today because the AAC football has been good and holding its own, but my point is, that isn't going to last forever due to the financial discrepancy that has been created with this P5/G5 split. So the move in hoops to the Big East is more a move for the future.
Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the AAC all in all, but we have to be looking down the road and when we do, that's what I see.
