I realize how difficult it is to snag a top level recruit because they all seem to go to the Dukes, Kentuckys, UCLA's of the world. But if we could just snag one, it could do wonders. So I'll ask again, do the Rockets have a legitimate chance at signing Jacob Epperson, son of Toledo's all-time leading scorer & rebounder? He's taking his OV this weekend.

IMO?

No.

But it would be awesome on more than one level, that's for sure!

I don't see any connection to the UT program with Jacob other than his dad went here. Ken never has been a part of the program like Jay Gast, Jay Lehman, Jeff Coil etc. who have been around the college and have brought their kids around it. Sure Ken lives around the other side of the equator and has reason for not being "around". Thinks it's great that he is coming to campus and bringing his son for a visit. Just don't see him coming here. We can't even keep a football player from CCHS who was committed here, and our football team has been solid for a many years.

UT has a better rep outside of the OSU-UM shadow.

It's difficult to see "home" for what it is, good or bad but when away, it's always nice to hear the Toledo name. You'd be in a better position down there, to put UT into perspective.

Official visits being controlled, taking one here could speculate several reasons. Doing it for Dad. Doing it because he already has the desired offer in the bag and so can do this for Dad.

Living at home (Toledo), knowing we don't have the "Championships," the NCAA visits or even academically, the overall rep of our bigger neighbors, it's harder to speculate that the visit is on merits. To us, it's just "UT." We certainly don't get a lot of hype from the local. Don't have a clue how the university is viewed from afar, athletically or academically.

If Ken hasn't been back in a number of years, the changes will be huge for him. I've heard from a number of former Rocket athletes that have returned from campus after being away and they raved about UT.

I can imagine. I'd never seen campus back then, living on the other side of the river but I've seen photos. Pretty much one big building, a Fieldhouse and a stadium with a big parking lot? Couple other things thrown in?

Heck I even still look at the new Savage in awe. It's got that feel gets you excited walking in the door. Same the GB and anytime I feel the IQ starting to slip, I sneak into U-Hall. A walk through the courtyards and down that hallway by the theatre smartens a person right up.

Interesting guy. Looking at his bio just turned 22 yesterday as a 5th year college student. graduated HS at the top of his class a year early. went to prep school then UT. was immediately eligible at Kennesaw St which must mean he had his BA in 3 years from UT. Averaged 8 and 6 at Kennesaw St last year and 13 and 10 so far this year. in his pics he looks a lot older and more cut than i recall him at UT. seems like his new school has had similar luck in close games as us. they are 12-14 but 8 of those losses are by 4 points or less. imagine he is finishing up his masters this term.

There was never a doubt he was a quality guy. Sounds like he found a home there. Apparantly he grew into his body- he just never seemed in good shape or very aggressive here.

RE: Coach K's Recruiting Classes Evaluation
My two-cents:

- Nathan Booth was a bigger liability than Adway or any other player as a freshman and sophomore. He was overweight, slow, uncoordinated and prone to foul trouble. Nathan became the player he is today with hours of hard word and discipline. I think we forgot how cringe worthy Nathan's game was back when he was 18 and 19 years old.

- I think a lot of these players that transfer out are/were "scholarship fillers" and not necessarily Tod and the coaching staff's first choice. There's a direct correlation in how late in the signing period we get these kids and their longevity in the program.

If I were coach K, I would bring in a big guy and offer Lauf's brother a one year scholarship. BG has a walk-on from Anthony Wayne that makes lots of 3's and is helping the team. We have offered kids in the past that have less to offer than Brett Lauf.

If Coach K hasn't already offered the younger brother of Jordan Lauf, I'll never understand recruiting. The kid is putting up 40+ points a game it seems like, plus his brother has had a successful career here so you'd think it's inevitable.

Bring the kid on coach, as a prefer walk on, offer him if he does well after next season.

Brett Lauf had 34 last night. I see in today's Blade that Bowsher 6-7 senior forward Dalonte Brown has been offered by Miami(OH). We also have 6-9 Demajeo Wiggins at BG who was without a scholarship offer from UT and finally signed very late in the spring. Averaging 11/8 as a sophomore. Both players going to high school just a few miles from UT's campus, but K prefers to bring in JUCO or other players from Florida or Kansas or Mississippi.

This season is the first time he has brought in JUCO transfers. Toledo has offered 6-6 power forward Vincent Williams from Toledo St. John's in the 2018 class

Offering Williams is great, but he's a long shot for us. He most likely will get some offers from bigger time programs. I'm not saying that we shouldn't offer him for that reason, but Coach K still needs to be able to assess talent for guys who aren't as heavily recruited as Williams. Damajeo Wiggins is a great example. Turns out he's a much better college player than Adway, but we offered Adway and not Wiggins.

According to verbalcommits, UT has already offered 26 scholarships for 2018. By way of comparison, Akron has offered 5, Buffalo has offered 6, and Ohio has offered 2. Not sure of the significance, but Kowalczyk clearly has a different approach than these successful MAC programs.

A local sports reporter said the Lauf isn't getting recruited by D1 schools. So, some people here - who are criticizing TK's recruiting abilites - want him to recruit someone who isn't really being recruited by other D1 schools? Geeze...

That to me, is a big problem. How did Coach K screw up that badly on that one? Not the look we want with the local high schools...

It's easy to see Wiggins is a bigger contributor to bg than Adaway is to Toledo, but I don't think it was a mistake to go after him. Wiggins looked good his Senior year, but so did Adaway and Adaway played in the tougher Chicago league. More NBA players come out of Chicago than the NLL
