I think any one of us could have done a better job making these schedules then the league office.

The cross-divisional games in a conference this large were always going to be goofy. So even though we have teams we've never played (that you'd think would be priorities) I can get why there are so many repeats and gaps in that.

Same goes for having to re-arrange the home-and away schedules here and there. That stuff is all UAB's fault. A 13 team conference is just going to schedule worse than a 14 team conference (which is not a great number to begin with).

I am surprised that they've dropped the rivalry week match-ups. I thought we were trying to build towards something there. And since they're all divisional games, you wouldn't think it's be that hard to work.

The half-full view of the change for Tech is that it breaks up our Texas road games a little better. Maybe that was a bigger consideration than pure geography (which, to be honest, after the WAC is so much of an improvement that something like this wouldn't even occur to me).

This is a very true statement. And true, thinking about it, we split the Texas teams, and the two non-Texas teams, as well. I just feel like it would be better to at least alternate UNT and USM so we always have one relatively close road game. But yeah, anything is better than the WAC.

Dang, you're right. Not an enviable position to be in. As for playing us back-to-back in Ruston that's a one-time adjustment. It'll go back to alternating after this. You also are getting Southern Miss at home back-to-back. We lost getting UAB at home to get you guys, and I was honestly really looking forward to having UAB in Ruston. But oh well, everything should go back to normal in 2018.

If you have to play a SWAC team you want Southern. They travel extremely well, awesome band and well behaved fans (they treat the game as a family reunion and aren't obnoxious like SEC fans can be). I would like Tech to keep Southern, Northwestern St. and Grambling on a rotation basis every year.
