Frankly the only people who are going to be surprised haven't been paying attention for the last 3 years.

RE: Official visit weekend
While Power 5 schools were heavily courting Johnston, his uncle shared Robert Frost's poem 'The Road Not Taken' with him. That might have been a turning point in his recruitment.

"My uncle helped me understand that it is OK to go to the place that may feel uncomfortable and less traveled by others," Johnston said. "Going somewhere everyone thinks is a sure thing is not always where the biggest blessings occur. I feel like I'm taking the road less traveled here, and I can't wait to make it pay off."

An assist from his uncle and Robert Frost

Did Johnston ever take an official visit to UAB? I know he's probably been unofficially multiple times.

Next up, I'm hoping for Eugene Minter.

I think the Arizona State visit didn't happen or was unofficial. He's ov'ing UAB this weekend which could help us reel in some uncommitted prospects.

I'm about to get slammed for this, I know, but one could make an argument that Clark is the second most important coach in UAB history after Gene Bartow. What he has meant for the football program and the entire athletic program at UAB can not be overstated. He had every reason to leave. The enemies of UAB did everything they could to drive him off. Yet he stayed and has returned some magic to the magic city.

It's crazy he's only coached 12 games for us and we are talking about him being a legend. I completely agree, if the man stays here a while, he will have a statue out front of the Football Ops building one day. I have no doubt we will hang some Conference Championship banners in the facility very soon.
