Brownell's style of basketball fits much better at the mid major level. High school kids this day want to run and gun, Brad's philosophy is more of a grind it out style. Not many top 150 players want to do that, it takes to much effort.

In fact, I have an odd feeling our beloved coach may end up there.

How many coaches since that time have tried and been canned at NCSU?

I'm not hating on NCSU, as I think geographically they're in a great spot. However, they just don't get it done consistently enough to hang with the top of the ACC anymore.

I disagree that Duke was unheard of before Coach K,they were very good and played in the Final 4 multiple times prior to him getting there. Vic Bubas is a legend at Duke and Bill Foster was very good there. They were really down when Bucky Waters was fired but Duke has a very long history that dates well beyond the legend Coach K.
I do agree that NCSU is NOT a graveyard for coaches and could be a national power again very quickly with right coach and a little luck. It is a great job that pays monster money with great facilities, fans and tradition. I also think Keatts just might be the right guy for the job. I hear that they love Archie Miller and he is the top choice with fans if they change coaches.
I don't think they fire Gottfried this year. I also don't see Clemson firing Brownell. They both have big contracts and I think are well liked.

Unless State were to get someone that can recruit with UNc and Duke it will never be top flight. Who wants to go there and be the "red headed step child" year after year? That's what they are! I'd root for State over any of them but it is what it is.

RE: Warren Nolan RPI Live update
Some Wolfpack fans are on the interwebs calling for a new head coach. Gottfried has gotten NC State to the big dance every year except last year and collected 2 Sweet 16s for them. Hes gotten NC State more NCAA tournament wins than Herb Sendek did in half the amount of time. Best coach for them since Jimmy V. NC State fans are savages.

I doubt that they can hire anybody that can recruit the top players in the nation every year but they can hire a system guy who might compete most of the time. That seems more likely than recruiting against Duke,UNC,Kentucky every year.

RE: Warren Nolan RPI Live update
Keatts would only be offered the job if Archie turns it down, and State extended Gottfried last year. Debbie only has a 1-2 left before retiring. The administration would be foolish to let her hire the next coach (Gary likely would sabotage the next search as well). I don't think State is hiring a new coach in 2017. I think Clemson is though.

Duke was the national runner-up in 1978, two years before Coach K arrived. The year before K was hired, they were ACC regular season champions and Mike Giminski was 2nd team all-america.

RE: Warren Nolan RPI Live update
Personally, I'd rather put all of our support behind Keatts while he's at UNCW than project his next job. He stated he wants to build a program, and after 2.5 years, it's obvious that he's on his way. My hope is that through fan support and a creative approach by Bass, we are able to offer him enough to turn down these middle to bottom tier schools that offer a bigger check, but a much tougher chance to win consistently. Perhaps a P5 school comes calling this year, but the cupboard is stacked and the league is average. He can win here! He can win often, and he can win big. And then, win one of those top-tier teams comes along, shake his hand and wish him the best.

Easy now. Recruiting above other CAA schools and recruiting with K and Roy is two worldly differences

I think Keatts has proven to be gifted talent evaluator. I think it's his strongest attribute.

Oh i agree completely. He's been awesome. But that comparison is to 2 of the best in college hoops(perhaps ever), so the roll needs to be slowed just a tad.

UNCW is a better job than NC State. There, I said it. Their fan base has unrealistic expectations and whoever the HC is there will never be able to build a team capable of winning an ACC Title or ever really coming close.

And f*ck the ACC.

I agree with SN08. Bump the ACC. UNCW 4 Life. In Keatts we trust through hard times and good times.
