CCU-Kansas
Found this on the Sun Belt board. Coastal gets a P5 team to their stadium in 3 years. Don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but it bothers me that we are still playing the "insert school nobody knows about" teams at home 03-banghead A lot of students want FBS for the sole reason of playing schools they actually have heard of before.

"Cool that CCU will host a Big XII team. Not a fan of a 2 for 1 with a team as bad as Kansas. At least you should get three wins.

9/7/19 at Kansas
9/26/20 at CCU

Kansas stormed the field after beating URI.

I'm not joking.

Then maybe they should have gone to a FBS school.

RE: CCU-Kansas
I'd love to see P5 teams in BFS (any P5) but I have come to terms with 1A ain't ever gonna happen at JMU, not with this administration.

Even if the G5 came up with a playoff system, Bourne would find a way to anchor the CAA with no resistance from the administration. He knows a G5 playoff system is light years away which is exactly why he offered a G5 playoff scenario as the can to kick down the road or the free beer being served tomorrow if you will.

I know the current landscape is not perfect, nothing is perfect but I truly believe that Bourne protects the CAA well beyond the normal boundaries due to personal relationships.

Is Bourne capable of making it happen if told to do so, yes. Will he be told to so, no. He's not going make waves in the meantime CAA4LYFE.

This isn't about Kansas. You can insert a lot of P5s (not the Alabama types) into the discussion. NC State, Pitt, Wake & so on.

App played the Miami Hurricanes in Boone last season. You can't seriously tell me you would rather play NDSU or that the PR of playing NDSU can compete.

I get that it's Kansas, but you're telling me that Kansas (a well known state school in the Big 12) wouldn't move the needle for people to come out to Bridgeforth Stadium? I agree with you that most people like the Richmond game because of the in state rivalry, but I'm looking at it from a bigger perspective. The home games this year in Bridgeforth were not very appealing except for maybe the end of the W&M game!

Or maybe they decided to go to a school whose administration promised we'd be FBS by now. I can play that game.

This is my exact point. There are only a handful of FCS teams that might draw a packed Bridgeforth Stadium (NDSU, Richmond, along with a couple others). Any low to mid level Power 5 team (Kansas, Miami, Wake, etc) would be a much bigger draw for the casual fan.

I hope our students aren't that dumb.

Mary: "Hey Jane, you decided where you are going to college?"

Jane: "Well, it's between William & Mary, UVA, Tech and JMU. I'm thinking of going to JMU because their administration promised it would be Div 1A in football by now."

Mary: "What? Are you high?"

hypothetical match-up of Kansas at JMU = estimated 24,877 in attendance
actual 2016 match-up of Morehead 7pts at JMU 80pts = 23,626 in attendance

I have yet to see any evidence that statements like this are rooted in facts:
"There are only a handful of FCS teams that might draw a packed Bridgeforth Stadium (NDSU, Richmond, along with a couple others). Any low to mid level Power 5 team (Kansas, Miami, Wake, etc) would be a much bigger draw for the casual fan."

I always take the "casual fan" and "move the needle" type comments with a grain of salt. JMU is one of the FCS leaders in attendance despite playing our safe schedules designed to give us a top 4 seed and a strong path to Frisco each year.

Don't hold your breath on either. Tell me when the last time we had a decent OOC home game at JMU?

Morehead St - Opening game and it was more than half empty by halftime

Hypothetical FBS teams will allow us to expand the stadium as right now there is no need to. App State was way over their capacity when Miami visited (yes I know it is Miami which is special, but right now we do not have that opportunity).

I think where you would see the bigger difference is 2nd home game Morehead St vs KU.

Home openers always have good turnouts.

Also - which would be more helpful for selling season tickets?

Kansas is a P5 team? I think when your fans storm the field for beating Rhode Island, you get automatically demoted to FCS.

I think what's most alarming is some of the students that rushed the field look like they should be on the team. Particularly the flower chick in the cowboy boots.
