RE: Matt Canada has a new job....
Does this move price him out of consideration to be the next head coach at NIU should there be an opening down the road?

Unless NIU is willing to dish out $1million+ a season for him, yes.

Someone help me out here.

This guy has had pretty good success. 2 stints at NIU. My memory is grey and without going back to the timeline, was there every a chance this guy could have been offered NIU HC? Was he in the running?

In 2012 he got hired on as Wisconsin's OC. If he had stayed another year, would most likely be NIU's HC instead of Carey since good ol' Jiff never did a coaching search & he still would've been the OC.

More than 1MM per year. You can officially cross him off the "potential future NIU head coach" list.

Matt Canada at his press conference today:

“Well I’m 1-0 at Alabama,” Canada said. “At Northern Illinois, we beat Alabama in 2003. So I guess I’ll go with that. It’s a true statement.”

not necessarily. it'd be a long shot now, but coaches are sometimes willing to take a hit financially to move up, tho at this point he could probably slide into a AAC or lower level BIG program, no problem.

RE: Matt Canada has a new job....
Seems like $800K+ is the new starting point if want a offensive/defensive coordinator from a solid power program to coach a MAC / CUSA / Sun Belt program. Western Kentucky just hired the Notre Dame offensive coordinator to a base of $800K. AAC and some MWC programs are already bringing top flight coordinators in for north of $1MM. Position coaches and low level head coaches looking to move up are now the economy tier.

He definitely wanted it when Kill was hired. Would he have done as good or better than Kill? Tough to say, probably not. Kill did a great job at NIU.

Kill walked into a great situation. He didn't screw it up which is good but he couldn't take NIU to the next level and win a big game

I don't think it's tough to say. Kill built the foundation for the greatest run of football in NIU history.

Let's stave off the craziness and say that Kill added to the Novak built foundation.
