From ESPN: North Texas to the HOD
From ESPN who owns and airs the bowl.

"Navy is the highest-ranked Group of 5 champion
Navy goes to the Cotton Bowl, Western Michigan plays North Texas in the Heart of Dallas Bowl, and Army plays a Big 12 team, most likely Baylor, in the Armed Forces Bowl.

No offense to nt fans, but that's a slap in the face to WMU.

I'm hoping we end up playing Army again. I think we can beat the again, and we'd have a really big crowd for this game.

HOD wants a 5-7 team? No matter anyone's biases, why would they settle for that?

I guess they value having a large crowd. Last season's attendance was just over 20K and that game featured Washington against Southern Miss. Their attendance has been dropping for years. They need to make money, and know we will bring 30K or more to their game. If we play Army, the attendance could be over 50K. That's really good for a non P5 bowl game.

I mean like it said there could be a major reshuffling, but why wouldn't you? These are the two most likely scenarios and both mention North Texas in the HoD. This is from ESPN, who controls these bowl games. I know LaTech wanted it, but it was appearing more and more like North Texas. 5-7 or not, look at the attendance differences between the two teams in HoD. ESPN wants their games to look good on TV, by having a crowd at the game. We are obviously closer so it makes sense. I'm sure you guys will end up getting a better opponent.

Tech had a great showing when they played in the HOD vs. Illinois. If Tech wins tomorrow then they can't stop Tech from picking Dallas unless they find something better

I think C-USA's Champ is headed to the Vegas bowl to face the MWC Champ. I think the loser of the C-USA Championship game is headed where they are told to go. Good luck tomorrow.

Absolutely.

North Texas will draw around 30-35K alone. Army has a national fan base. They could easily draw 20K fans from Dallas/Fort Worth alone. Lots of Vets around DFW. And remember, Carswell AFB is in Fort Worth.

No need to hate.

What North Texas fans went on your New Mexico Bowl thread and bashed y'all?

Doing the least would be going 0-12. Look at it this way... among those that came up a game short, we did the most in the classroom.

ticket sales...

So...NT is around the 20K mark in home attendance, but they will bring more than that to a bowl?

Okee Dokey...04-cheers

Jan 1st 2014 HOD bowl between North Texas and UNLV had an attendance of 38,800. So I don't think it's unrealistic to say 50k with UNT and Army in the game.

Not hate reality. 5-7 worst record. HoD highest bowl payout.

Your gain societies loss.

RE: From ESPN: North Texas to the HOD
I think CUSA has a system where bowl payouts get divided evenly among all conference members.

But can you imagine being WMU in this situation? You went 13-0 and your reward is a playing a 5-7 team that finished fourth in CUSA West.
