Our team needed this humbling experience. Burrell, ManMan, and others have never played this caliber of opponent.

By the way, I think Ike is playing very well right now.

RE: Official Game Thread: UNC Wilmington (L 59-68)
All that is true. And Ike *is* playing well; he's playing "within himself". As I've mentioned, Forbes has found exactly how to use him. And when the guards (seemingly especially Walters) get him the ball in correct in-close position, he has confidence and is converting. And he's more confident using his left hand, too.

It's a good scenario. Remember last year when we were wondering where his mid-range jump shot went that he had started to hone late in the year before? Well, that was a good thing he had going, but I'd be perfectly happy if we almost never needed him to use that weapon - since he's likely lost confidence in it by now - and it would mean that this scenario was no longer working. Ike has become a master at fitting into the seams (both literally and figuratively) he's been given.

Quick edit: All that said, in the times he had to guard him man, he was bullied and overpowered by Cacok, who went 8/9 inside. Most of that was *not* the fault of Banks, but Forbes went to the 2-3 zone to 'protect' against further abuse on Ike when both HMP and Glass were out in the second half.

UNCW is a first rate defensive team that has been playing together for a long time. Their relentless hustle and pressure is sweet to behold - unless you're rooting for the other team!! I hope that this is a good lesson for our guys of the work that needs to be done.

Getting it within 5 is not the goal!

Guys like Burrell, Devontavius and Walters can do much better. As a team, the Bucs can do much better. Even shoot a few free throws and we could make them sweat.

Got to take this and learn from it.

Got a lot of respect for your team and program guys. I know you're feeling down about this one but you shouldn't. In my view this was a dogfight between 2 NCAA Tournament teams, plain and simple. Make a few more FT's and you'd have sent that to overtime or won it outright.

Good luck the rest of the season. We'll be tracking your progress and rooting for you guys in every game you play!

Anyone so far very disappointed in Tevin Glass. I am rooting for him but I want to see improvement.

ETSU is a class program and i hope we are making a trip to Johnson city next year. Both our programs have overcome tremendous (and unnecessary) administrative setbacks and have worked extremely hard to regain past glory. Best wishes to your boys the rest of the way. Take home the SoCon

Good luck to the Seahawks as well. "tremendous (and unnecessary) administrative setbacks" might be the greatest short description i've ever heard.

Tevin is rebounding really hard, but he could take a lesson from Banks on playing within himself for buckets. As aggressively as Tevin is playing on offense, he absolutely must start hitting FT's. FT's seem to be a symptom of the team's waning focus, but Glass just has poor form, which is frustrating for a player able to hit the 3.

Burrell had a tough day - 1 for 9, missed a dunk and missed his 2 FTs. I almost have to agree with the UNCW broadcasters*; they commented a couple times that we didn't seem to be comfortable with the "in your face" defense that the Hawks played.
*I thought these guys were decent but the camera work was terrible! Half the time I couldn't see the action on our end of the floor because the camera didn't get there in time. And too many crowd shots of college kids (acting like they're not learning anything in college).

Isn't next year going to be Game 3 of a 4-game agreement?

EDIT: Just checked and it was just a 2-year deal, though Coach Keatts mentioned this Summer how he'd like to extend some of the deals on our non-conference slate. Hopefully ETSU is one of them!

No...Tevin is a junkyard dog who gives hustle, rebounding, and the ability to run the floor. He provides more intangibles than measurable output. On this team I think that's precisely what his role needs to be.

RE: Official Game Thread: UNC Wilmington (L 59-68)
I wouldn't say I'm disappointed in Glass; rather, I appreciate his effort and see upside once he matches intensity with senior poise. It's not surprising at all, having sat a year and now the preferred 4 on a deep team, that he's getting a little ahead of himself with the ball early this season. Glass can be all conference if he puts some arc in his FT and shows some more patience with the ball. Protecting the ball and valuing possession will make this team more complete, and coach has laid out a tough schedule for the Bucs to force this kind of game development. Halfcourt D and rebounding were highly competitive. Limiting turnovers will turn the Bucs into an NCAA team.

As always, I love coach's post game. The Bucs video recap leads with highlights, goes to a sharp analysis from Forbes, drills in the needed improvements and corresponding upside, and closes with Thanskgiving thoughts. Not the best Bucs effort but hardly a bad loss on the road. On to the Pentagon!

Here's hoping ETSU makes this type of highlight/post-game interview video a norm for the website after each game this year.

I definitely meant "not a bad LOSS on the road". "Win" in first post was some really delusional spin on a 68-59 outcome. :)

Not at all. He gives us exactly what we need at the 4. With Ike off the bench I think its going to be a solid 1-2 punch. The guy has tenacity and brings us the offensive rebounds that have not had in what? Like over a decade.

Nice article on Banks, and how much he likes playing for Forbes:

Banks continues to bank them in

In the last 15 years I don't think there's been a player who's improved as much as Ike. Rashawn Rembert also comes to mind.
