Coastal Carolina football has a replacement in the Big South
They are not likely to adequately replace CCU, but Campbel Univeristy is moving to scholarship football and will leave the Pioneer Football League (non-scholarship) for the Big South in football.
http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/colle...58343.html

I think it will be like trying to replace App State, Georgia Southern, and Elon with East Tennessee State, Mercer, and VMI for the SoCon. ETSU and Mercer were startups, and VMI hasn't been competitive since the Washington administration.

Anyway good for the Camels. I thought Chants fans may have found this interesting.
(Campbell, BTW, is a little under an hour south of Raleigh. It is otherwise in the absolute middle of nowhere, except for a few very small towns nearby.)

Campbell is a fit for the Big South. They fit in with Gardner-Webb, Chas. Southern, and Liberty.

Good for them staying viable as a FCS conference. Glad we have left that world behind!

Ha! Campbell! Please. We own those suckers.
(We have to be somebody's bully. They're like literally the only team we are 2-0 against).

This list is for ALL DI schools, not just DI in football. High Point does not have football, and Davidson has non-scholly FCS football (though technically DI). There are some others on the list as well.

The list has Birmingham-Southern on that list (State of Alabama) but they dropped down to D-III around 10-ish years ago. I would be surprised if that's the only exception...obviously, the list is quite outdated.

Biggest mistake in FCS football is having non scholarship in a D1 sport. Cheapens the whole division. If you want D1 sports give scholarships or go D3. That is what it's for. They did this cause they didn't want to lose the Ivy League.

Haha...when I read the first post, the first thing I tried to do was think of whether or not there's any other team that's played us more than once without winning...

Another reason is if you have a D1 Basketball program, all your sports must be D1 too, including football. Hence the non-scholarship Pioneer League fits that purpose.

Yeah I knew that too which makes no sense. They won't spend any more on D1 non scholarship as a D3. Just cheapens the division.

My favorite quote from this while things, comes from the commissioner of the Big South. During the press conference that Campbell was moving football to the Bible School Conference. He said "If you look around this campus, it's so clear why we wanted Campbell in our conference." Just proves this idiot lives in LaLa land.

The one thing i think you can give Campbell is that they seem to care about their athletics more than most of the Big South.

What's wrong with him saying that? Isn't he supposed to praise new members?

My biggest chuckle came when he started to name all of the great things that Big South football has accomplished, and most of it was by a team that is no longer a part of the conference.
