RE: CAA Basketball 2016-2017
Elon locked in a tight one with Charlotte early in the 2nd half. Stay tuned, the league might end up with a really nice 4-1 night.

CAA now 8-5 against D-I teams. Per Warrennolan.com, that pushes us to the 7th-ranked conference in the very early RPI rankings.

4 of those losses are by JMU and Drexel

Someone insulted a lot of high school gyms by saying Elon played in one. Their gym is a large dining room with seats crammed everywhere. A new building is in the works.

With the carpeted walkways I thought we were there to see a play when I went to the game there 2 years back. They had us basically standing in painter's scaffolding to watch the game. Pathetic, and will be very glad when the new building is ready.

Unfortunate, but still a solid 3-2 night for the league. Especially when you consider all 3 of the wins were on the road.

Delaware dropped their road game against LaSalle and Hofstra dropped their road game against sacred heart. Towson win their road game against Morgan St

Not a great start for the CAA, but not a bad start either. Hope all the CAA teams get it going this weekend!

RE: CAA Basketball 2016-2017
The CAA (9-8 against D-I opponents) dropped to 18th in the Conference RPI rankings after last night's losses.
I know we expected Hofstra to drop to the middle of the pack in the CAA with how much talent they lost since last year....but dang. Only a 2-pt win over a weak Coppin St. team at home, and now a loss to Sacred Heart from the NEC, who went 12-18 last year (RPI - 256).
The only reason for excitement for that team right now, other than Gustys, has been the play by freshman Eli Pemberton, who is averaging 21.5 ppg thru 2 contests.

Yep, they had probably the 2nd best starting 5 in the league last year after Hofstra. And they returned 3 of them (Adala Moto, John Davis, Mike Morsell) plus 6th man Eddie Keith II, who was elevated to a starting role as a result.
Davis has actually been coming off the bench so far but has been very productive in that role (8.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 20.0 mpg). Adala Moto and Morsell have been killing it, both averaging over 20 ppg thru 2 games. Adala Moto is also nearly averaging a double-double (9.5 rpg). He's probably your best early bet for CAA Player of the Year.
I would not be at all surprised if Towson finishes in the Top 2 this year.

RE: CAA Basketball 2016-2017
We need 2 to 3 very strong teams in the CAA to emerge with very good records. The parity over the past few years has actually been a problem. Multiple decent, but not great teams, has prevented the CAA from getting back to multiple bids.
IMO, UNCW, William and Mary and CoC or the most likely candidates to emerge from the pack over the next few years. There is no doubt the revival of UNCW has helped the CAA tremendously. And, although W&M has football, they are content in FCS and therefore haven't gone all in for football to the detriment of basketball. CoC mirrors UNCW in their commitment to excel in basketball, location in a basketball rich part of the country, and minus football has basketball at the top of their mind.
Clemson looms large for UNCW, and CoC has multiple opportunities for a marquee win. I don't know if having Duke and Louisville on the schedule is the best strategy for the Tribe though.

Regardless of the outcome of those games it will be a nice bump to their SOS and RPI. I don't mind them playing these at all even though it's a likely loss.
