It's Cole Johnson's show now and hopefully Schor's injury isn't season ending.

Go Dukes!

bingo

Cole is a true freshman and while that is fine against Elon, I would prefer to have a little more experience for the playoffs. Mitch is still listed on the roster so if he can go, I would prefer him.

I'm sure there have been others in this thread, but just another shout out to the defense for stepping up today. Great job!

If we can play D like that over the next month, we are going to have a lot of fun in December (and hopefully January).

GO DUKES!!

10/29 field notes (after URI blowout):
"- Houston turned to most of his backups in the second half. One noticeably absent backup was quarterback Connor Mitch. The South Carolina transfer suffered a non-football injury during the bye week, Houston said. Mitch is expected back at some point this season, but Houston doesn’t know when that will be. Until then, Hunter Etheridge is Schor’s backup."

RE: VILLANOVA GAME
FWIW I talked with Conner Mitch and I assume his mom outside the locker room after the Richmond game. At least at that point he was eager to get over his injury and get back and be ready to play.

My hope is he returns, improves and is on the team next year, and is good enough to maybe put the red shirt back on Johnson. That might be a stretch but it could give us Johnson for 3 years after Schor and Mitch are done. Obviously the rest of this season may make my previous thought pure folly.

I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't Houston's thinking when he out Johnson out there. If he was going to have to serve as "3rd string" for one of his eligibility years so might as well use him now and then redshirt next year if possible.

RE: VILLANOVA GAME
At the press conference, Houston said he brought in Johnson without hesitation. Based on what he said, he has a lot of confidencet in him. He said that Cole has been running the practice team and actually credits him as one of the reasons our defense has improved.
The bad news is he's a true freshman with only the game experience he had yesterday. The good news? We are having to put him in at a good time. If Schor doesn't come back this year, Cole will have a week to get ready for Elon. I would say they will probably simplify some things for him. As long as we win, he should have two more weeks of preparation for the next team.
I hope he can improve enough to not be a liability for this team. We don't need him to be as good as Schor, but we do need him to play smart football.

The good news is that outside of ndsu, I don't know if we'll see a better defense then VU in the playoffs.

RE: VILLANOVA GAME
Connor is still on the team he didn't go to Villy because its was a road game and that limits the number of travelers. They took players that were able to pla.y Johnson could have played but the staff didn't need him so he got another weeks rest, same for miller. Just good judgement calls IMHO from the staff. They wont be needed next weekend so that gives us another week for good therapy and healing of old injuries. week after thanksgiving is when we need a healthy team on the field. only strong (or lucky)teams make the first cut and then advance. Just chill a bit we are OK.

Media coverage of game other than DukesofJMU.com, DNR, WHSV:

I'm up here in the Philly area about a doz miles from VU. Looking at some of the media coverage. CSN had an article on the game and didn't even mention Schor going down. The other articles I can across did.

This one talked a lot about Schor and mentioned JMU's "surprisingly large legion of fans".

So, the local press gave no credit to JMU's D, rather it was VU's "errors" or the fault of VU's offense that beat them. Riiiight.

It's the losers papers, what do you expect? The focus is of course on the local team, win or lose. A national paper would be expected to give a more objective analysis.

Regardless of the hometown point of view of the paper, which I agree is to be expected, the quotes attributed to Talley are demeaning to JMU. Talley just can't admit his squad got beat, instead it's all on his team's poor play. By contrast, Houston was all grace and compliments. So, FU Nova. As much as I hate Delaware, I hope the blue chickens clean Talley's clock next Saturday and Nova misses the playoffs.

RE: VILLANOVA GAME
I mean... it is pretty f'in humbling to have a team's all-conference, all-america QB go down for the final three quarters, have their 3rd string true freshman QB struggle mightily and you still somehow manage to lose the football game in somewhat convincing fashion. You get handed a gift in Schor's injury and still lose. What does that say about Bednarczyk?

Yes, but Talley was in essence saying JMU was a one-trick pony whose name was Schor. And he dissed the DL as well. Hope he's still smarting come Saturday after Delaware rips him a new one.

Seems like those southpaw QBs have a low flatter trajectory throw AND our DL was coached all week with: Hands Up! Hands Up! Get your #@%$+! hands up! And it worked. I told Coach Hanson after the game, that with Simeyon Robinson out and an already short-manned DL to begin with, that he did a GREAT job getting his position ready to play their best game this year. Won the game for us.

Sounds like Talley has a serious case of butt hurt. Schor is the team? Guess he hasn't watched a lot of film on the Dukes this season.

remember the BS he said in 2008 after we beat Nova in the quarters and before we played Montana?

"[JMU will] beat Montana. That's a slam dunk for them. We would have beaten Montana. Our league is so strong. Richmond is good, we're good."

we all knew IMMEDIATELY what kind of bulletin board material he was trying to provide. I'm not going to say it worked because who knows if it had an effect, but I didn't think it was cool on a number of levels.

I don't think there is anything Talley could say to get me to root for UD over VU. My dislike of UD is FAR greater than VU. UD is #1 on my dislike list..
