What do you think, any chance in hell of happening?

I say no. It would be an automatic two Dem senators, and Reps won't allow that into their rigged system.

I'd also like to point out the irony of bitching about the "rep rigged system" in the same breath as trying to guarantee "an automatic two Dem senators" to represent *1* city...

that is bigger than multiple states.

That's not really relevant... It's still one city

Give them a representative and let them vote in the senate elections of VA or Maryland

Problem solved..

how is that relevant? you are saying people who live in a city are somehow less than people who live in a rural area.

No.... I'm not talking about the people, I'm talking about a city, one in which a federal government is run that must stand apart from the authority of any one state.

Quote:Voters in the District of Columbia passed a measure on Tuesday in favor of petitioning Congress to become a state in the union.

79 percent of voters cast votes in favor of the ballot measure, which splits the district into a residential state with a small federal district in the middle of it for government buildings and monuments, as we have reported.

The newly approved measure had four parts:

- agree that the District should be admitted to the Union as the State of New Columbia
- approve of a Constitution of the State of New Columbia to be adopted by the Council
- approve the State of New Columbia's boundaries
- agree that the State of New Columbia shall guarantee an elected representative form of government.

In 2021 this will happen. Long overdue. 40 million African Americans live in this country. They should be the majority somewhere that has a Senate vote.

the OP specifically accounts for that. the Mall is excluded. it gives statehood to the rest of the city.

the people are the city. you can't have a city without people.

Give Maryland back its' land. The District of Columbia becomes the Capitol, White House, the Mall, the monuments, Arlington Cemetery, etc. with the only residents being the President and his/her family. Maryland already had 2 Senators and would probably gain a Congressional seat in the next census.

But the Democrats just wasn't 2 new Senators so DC as a state will always remain an issue. It would be nice if they would just be honest about it.

So its just as simple as ... majority vote in the House, majority vote in the Senate, and President signing. No majority needed.

BTW, the District was partitioned before without a constitutional amendment.

Actually the 40 million African Americans should have somewhere they can elect a Black senator that reflects the views of the African American mainstream.

No, and No to PR. We don't need 4 more Democrat senators.

so by your own admission you only care about the political implications with 2 senators and 1 rep verse only having one rep added to MD. pretty hypocritical IMO

That one rep MD gets is going to come from the general 435 pool which takes away from the big states first which are democratic. so you are not giving the dems one more house vote but giving MD one of california's house vote.

They can rejoin Maryland if Maryland even wants them or they can keep it the same as it is now. There's a lot bigger cities that could make a claim for city-statehood than the District.

I have no issue the nation's capital being located in Maryland.

Does this men, by your own admissions, it's not about the "3 million" people? because this solution addresses that.

So yea, maybe he is thinking politics but please don't pretend that you are not.

that's literally the point I'm making. It's hypocritical for one of us to take the moral high ground on this regarding the politics. yet it should be noted that what I am suggesting is the simplest most straight forward plan possible. while you guys argue on it based on what IMO are anti-american values.

But of course the African Americans don't get to be a majority anywhere. 40+million people without a voice (no Tim Scott does NOT represent any more than 2 or 3 percent of Black people) of their own.

LOL. DC qualifes or make Wyoming a territory.

That 1 representative would represent 1/435 of the population and would be assigned based on that with no regard to state, race, politics or any other consideration just as it is done today every 10 years. And the 2 Senators from Maryland would still be proportionately more powerful than those from larger states.
It is also fiscally responsible as we will not have to buy any additional desks, pay additional staff or incur any other additional expense. Plus a flag with 51 stars just seems unwieldy.
