Southern fans, it might be time for one of you to dust off that old GSU dumpster fire picture.
The Falcons looked goooooood tonight, man.

That does make me feel marginally better.

They're good. But not five sacks good. They've had seven through four conference games. This would be game five.

That's a fair way to put it.

I know stAte had a rough one offensively tonight, but after watching this game, I have to think the App-Troy game is going to decide the Belt champion this year. The Red Wolves are obviously doing what they need to do in conference, and maybe they step up even more against Troy, but it's really looking like those two teams are just a step above the rest of us. (Okay, a step above some in the conference, and a couple steps above the rest of us.)

How far does this win drop us in the weekly SBC Power Rankings?

Probably not at all because no one else is any good either.

They do this to us every year though with the exception of 2014. Hell, their 2013 team was within a 2 point conversion of tying us, and that team went 0-12.

I'm not sure what it is, but we don't match up well witht he Panthers. Only difference is that most years is their offense that's been terrible all year figuring out ways to score on our defense. This year it was their defense making our offense look like a peewee team.

We'll probably come out and dominate Troy now. That's just how our season is going. One day we can lose to some really bad teams, the next we're capable of beating good teams.

Under Anderson we've been bizzaro football.
Seems like if the stats say our opponent is a beast against the run, we can't do anything against that team successfully except run. If stopping the pass is their thing then we can't run but we can pass. What if the offense can't find the end zone? AState scores on defense and/or special teams.

There were more on the Verizon Club level and Owners Club watching both Falcons and State, but if I had to guess... it was 7500 to 10k there.

Did not catch the 2nd half but other than the fact they failed to score when they had the opportunity , like the UCA game, it looked to me like A-State's offense was in control of the game at the start, something hard to do against this Georgia State defense.

That the game came down to defense, and special team play was pretty much what was expected, but watching them in the 1st half it should not have.

Bottom line is this game, just like the GaSo game this year and a lot of games last year, even when they are not scoring points with their offense, their defense, and above average speed and talent everywhere gives them a chance because they can still score points in a lot of ways.

I still say that if they do not beat themselves, because of their talent it will be very hard for any SBC team to beat them.

Your approach to watching games is similar to your research, front loaded with no follow through while ignoring metrics as you please... Good talk, thanks for sharing.

I was about to jump on the downtown connector and head home after work yesterday when I saw several charter buses with a police escort headed West on Ivan Allen. I thought to myself, what could this be? Then I saw that one of the police cars was Georgia State University PD, and I realized I was witnessing the vaunted Panthers of Ga St headed to their "home away from home" aka The Georgia Dome, for some Thursday night #Funbelt action. "Go fight win you gritty kitties," I exclaimed! Then I went home and watched more of the game then 99.9999999% of other ATL metro residents did...about 3 minutes (we can't be blamed since the Falcons are pretty good this year and were on at the same time).

Don't have any "metrics" to ignore, just know that A-State has the most talented roster of players in the SBC, and nothing else. That talent is what the other SBC teams have to overcome, and it is not that easy to do.

Is there something wrong with talent in the future?

I know SI can be hard to take but in this game he is probably right. We out talented GSU. Sure didn't beat them the old fashioned way. Not talent on the o-line though. Hansen may have a hard time getting out of bed this morning.

He and their QB both probably should compare doctors notes. I thought we might really hurt their guy late yesterday. Felt bad for him. It's hard to just drop back every down against our front.

IMO this game was their biggest challenge (because that Georgia State defense is special, and they had not won a road game this year) after GaSo ( because they were 0-4 and confidence was an issue).

Beating Troy, and maybe ULL on the road will probably require them to play better but getting by GaSo, and GaSt was a big deal for them confidence wise.
