Baseball is important in the SBC so this is just trying to keep up in the arms race.
We may not be a Third World Country in the SB baseball facilties arms race, but we're way behind.

True story, but as you know that's changing.

More and more AD's are realizing that.

Ga Southern and UL are putting money into their facility. Georgia State just made a huge purchase for the future. Arkansas State AD said baseball facility is the next priority. Texas State, App State and Troy have recently put $$ into their park.

It's now been a decade since the South Alabama renovation. New scoreboard and, most importantly, an overhang to shield spectators from the brutal late season sun needs to get done.

UTA needs to step up. That place could be a solid facility with a few million dollar upgrade.

That leaves ULM and Little Rock. I will say, LR is a damn sight better than it was fifteen years ago. But there's only so much you can do there, especially with the location.

Honestly, ULM was considered jewel when it was built. But that was going on 35 years ago and, outside of a few walls in the press box, a new scoreboard that is already outdated and a remodel of the locker rooms, they've done virtually nothing.

Dude, I know its not equivalent to College Park Center, but we've invested close to $10 million in the last decade and a half. It's just that we were coming from a place that was almost a field surrounded by chain link fence. We didn't even have quality lights until 2003.

Our most recent expansions have been focusing on player amenities and development as we built an indoor practice facility in 2003 for near $2 million and a clubhouse in 2015 for $5.5 million.

There's a better history on the Wikipedia page.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clay_Gould_Ballpark

As an aside, when I was a student at the turn of the century, UTA had some of the collective worst facilities in DI. Aside from track playing out of Maverick Stadium, every sport, despite most of them being nationally competitive, had dumps for homes. The basketball and volleyball teams replaced Texas Hall with CPC in 2012 (one coach said UTA went from the outhouse to the penthouse), softball was completely rebuilt in time for the 2016 season, I mentioned the Clay Gould renovations, with more in the planning process and we recently (2016) opened a new locker room and clubhouse for the golf team, which will include a women's team next year. Even Maverick Stadium has had a few renovations in the last six years with refurbished locker rooms and fan amenities.

These kinds of changes aren't cheap and take time, but going back to 2010, we've invested almost $100 million in facilities. These things just take time when we were so awful for so long.
