I seriously doubt he had any knowledge, or any reason to even think about, of Rose's SAT score until the NCAA informed the AD.

so who do you think used contacts to take D Rose's entrance test...Cal or WWW?

It wasn't probably Cal even if Cal could figure what was going on. First of there is plausible deniability.

More importantly... If more Memphis kids went to Detroit for their SAT, then you could suspect it was Cal's doing. The only connection I can see is if Cal had a contact who took care of CDR and he put the connection in for Rose. Otherwise, why pick Detroit?

Cal was quoted in a GQ article as saying Worldwide Wes was "a goodwill ambassador to our program." He lived in Detroit at the time Rose went there for his SAT. Here's a picture of Wes with one of his Detroit buddies.
Rose, who lived in Chicago, had taken the ACT there twice without success, but two weeks before he would have been declared academically ineligible to play basketball for Memphis, he went to Detroit where he was registered to take the SAT and came away with a successful score.

There's actually nothing more to the story than that. Sometimes people just get lucky.

RE: He's back!!
I'm waiting for the rumored 30 on 30 documentary on Cal and how badly he trashes Memphis. It won't be pretty. Will the cancelled recognition at a BB game be mentioned? How the Memphis fans still hate him?

I'm sure he told WWW or one of his assistants to make sure Rose passes the test this time but "I don't want to know the details."

No $$$ for football improvements, period, during those last 4 or 5 years, especially.

We danced with the devil and got burned when he left.

RE: He's back!!
Had a chance to talk with him after TT practice. He said and I believe him that he still loves Memphis. Loves Tubby and is always pulling for Tigers. Told me we were looking at a player that was the best player in Memphis that is not a Grizzly. That caught me off guard. He also said that he was not surprised that Thad and Deangelo were huge sponsors of the Susan G Komen Memphis chapter. Was also shocked that I left Mitchell to work for Thad foundation. On a positive I do feel that DJ would not mind staying home to play. Tubby can close this deal with hard work.

The way I heard it theorized (if it happened at all) was, he thought he took the test..and did actually take some test.

shrug

The fact that Cal wants him says a lot about how good Jeffries is

I guess he doesn't think Chandler is better, or that he has no chance

We shall see

Can't resist these insane posts today: Cal's efforts made BB so profitable it put more money in football than anything in history of school.

absolutely not true.
Tommy West made a detailed analysis of what it would take for the University to keep putting forth a competitive football team...from facilities to football gear.
He was basically told to take a hike in not so many words.
IF more money was being put into football...why are we JUST NOW seeing money really being poured into football? IE expansions....improvements.
Poor Rip Scherer had to park that damn earth mover to show recruits something was about to be done.

And what does that have to do with Cal?

Were we "pouring the money in" back in the 80s and 90s?

What it has to do with Cal is, Long about the time we got some momentum with Tommy, and he started to push to put more than a pittance in FB was the same time Cal was defacto running the Athletic Department. Calling the shots. However you want to term it. Tommy got told to stuff his plans. The LOGICAL CONCLUSION would be that Cal wanted the big-booster money to be exclusively used on BB.

Just a guy losing a big paycheck

The Cal "running the athletic dept" crowd morphed into the "been a done deal for 18 months" crowd

I have never claimed "done deal for xx months." So I don't know what you are talking about with that. But anyone who doesn't know that Cal got what he wanted at the expense of all other sports is ignorant.

An athletic director's job is to direct athletics. Fans, the media, and pundents had been saying for YEARS that football drives the bus as it relates to getting in a better conference etc. But RC refused to grow a back-bone, instead letting Calipari drive the Athletic Department at Calipari's whim. RC's job was to convince whomever needed convincing (i.e. "the whales") that football needed what it needed, but he did not do that, so...

I understand what you and others say about that situation, and I mostly agree.
It is also my understanding that some folks with whale $ were withholding financial support until Hairboy left.

Not to give RC a pass, but infrastructure and support has been/was and still is in place for hoops--especially winning hoops.

Could any AD have bucked that--at that point in time?
