You must have been in SC. That mustard based sauce is nauseating.

My family has a vinegar based sauce that was created by my great-grand father. My dad committed it to memory and never wrote it down. My brothers and I flipped when he finally gave us each a written copy of the recipe last Christmas. 02-13-banana

I always laughed when NC folks would say they were Southern.

The BBQ was one of those moments. Lol

UNC Beat Reporter (5 years ago): Coach Withers, you grew up in NC and went to HS in Charlotte...why didn't you go to UNC?

Withers: I wasn't recruited by UNC so I had to settle playing somewhere smaller, App State.

What part of this is offensive or upsetting to you App State fans? It seems like he's just telling the truth.

There are dozens and dozens of interviews with Paul Goldschmidt talking about how he wasn't heavily recruited coming out of high school so he ended up at Texas State - as opposed to some of the other college baseball powerhouses. Nobody takes offense to it. It's the truth. And like Withers, he often speaks fondly of his University and time spent there.

Memphis BBQ is by far the worst I've had of NC, Texas, and Memphis. Haven't had KC.

My old roommate moved out to Lawrence to pursue a Doctorate degree at KU at the start of this semester. He was not impressed with KC Q.

I've eaten at a place the billed itself as "the Best BBQ in Bakersfield" (CA) as well as locally renowned BBQ joints in Albany, NY and Boston, MA so I know first hand there is such a thing as bad BBQ. In San Luis Obispo, CA what they call BBQ is sort of like pot roast beef tips, California wierdos.

My favorite BBQ restaurants are in Austin, TX, McKinney, TX, St Louis, MO, and Lexington, NC. I really like the places in Texas where you order right off the smoker and you pay by the pound.

Honest to God, the best BBQ I've ever had comes from a little place called Strawberry's in Holcomb, MO.

Yes

This man knows his Q.

Oklahoma Joe's in KCK is the only place I've had that compares, overall, to Pappy's (and Pappy's ribs are still the best in the universe). Jones BBQ in Marianna, AR is home to the world's best pulled pork, though. Best burnt ends I've ever had came from the original Arthur Bryant's in KCM.

Growing up in NC, I always knew BBQ to mean chopped pork. And that is my biggest complaint with NC style BBQ, the lack of variety. Most old school Lexington style places have a menu with chopped plate and chopped sandwich and that's about it. I love it, don't get me wrong but I really like walking into a place and getting a plate with pork and brisket, chicken, sausage and ribs. For my money, good burnt ends are about the best eating around.

The worst BBQ outside the grocery case is found in NC east of Raleigh where they give you a little bit of chopped pork with your plate full of vinegar.

Well that explains it. Please do not lump all NC BBQ in with that stuff they eat in the eastern part of the state. You need to get yourself over to Lexington and enjoy the BEST NC BBQ.
