In his comments about the interim UNC HC position he mentioned he had to settle for a scholarship to App. To my knowledge he has never proudly discussed his experience at Appalachian. Well Coach, did you have to settle for the job at TXST????
I must confess I know nothing about Texas State except the name of the mascot. Would you Texas folks fill us in?
My sentiments exactly. Knew Everette when he played at App and he was a good kid. Evidently since leaving Boone he got a little too big for his britches. This isn't aimed at Tex St fans, but I hope we beat them by 50.

Withers certainly thinks very highly of himself.
It's a given that App will put up 500+ yards and can name the score.

I got to listen to him give a lecture at the THSCA coaching school back in July. He gave a personal history about his football history starting with his playing days at App State and then speaking about every place he coached at. He spoke fondly of his days there and didn't seem to be overly pompous, but I am biased so yea.

Tell me if anything I said is inaccurate.
And yes, I have taken a lot of pleasure in his struggles. Nothing against Texas State.

JMU2004 I know this is off the main topic so if you want to respond in a direct message that's fine...but after seeing the success App and GS have had in the Sunbelt, knowing the conference will split into very nice East/West divisions, and knowing JMU had a shot to join ranks, how do you and other JMU fans feel about your future? And if you'd been the AD would you have accepted a Sunbelt offer when it was made?

we're trying to find something, anything, to motivate us in this game, ya it pretty lame going after Withers, but what else do we got? We certainly don't see anything with the actual football game to warrant discussion.

na, cant see that happening, unless you turn it over a lot, just don't have the offense to put up that many points, plus Satterfield doesn't like embarrassing the other team, he is a good guy, App by 24

I think you underestimate how quick our 3 and out offense is.
Your offense won't have time to catch it's breath before it's on the field again.

Dude, we have the worst offense in the history of the world currently and they only scored 34 on us, I'm pretty sure the App fan is correct.

Lol... ULM's backup put 40 on us.
Again... I'm commenting on the speed in which we run plays, not just how inept our offense is. (Very fast no huddle = under a minute t.o.p. drives)
App will see more offensive series than they normally do. So even if their offense isn't flawless they will get more opportunities

I give Withers a pass for his past comments because most of them were made when he was UNC interim coach. He was trying to win over the Tar Heel faithful in a difficult time.

why do you guys run such a fast offense? It seems you would want to slow it down as much as possible to eat up the clock and keep your defense off the field

UTSA was never really FCS. They were a start up that had to be classified as FCS but they weren't in a conference. Their 2nd year, as an FCS transitional, they were in the WAC and played an FBS schedule.
As I said. There is no prerequisite for having to be successful at the FCS level before making the jump.

I assume we are sticking with it so our younger players can become experienced in the style we will be using in the long run.
The goal is to string together a ton of plays quickly 80-90 a game to wear down defenses. It backfires if we cant put together more than one or two drives a game.

Did we not win 2 FCS national champions have 14 conference titles all of the sudden? It's not as if we came out of nowhere relatively speaking at the FCS level. We weren't as good as the NDSUs, Montanas, and gaso/apps of the FCS but those are anomalies with the level of parity in FCS football. That being said I'm not looking forward to this game we just don't have the numbers to compete after the Withers purge in the offseason. I trust the direction Withers is taking us but this year we are just bad.

After going back and looking your right lol (Damn you misleading Wikipedia) most of that was in D2. None of that matters now anyway, we are in the FBS now so all that matters is what we do going forward.
