RE: Guess the score
More winning will fix some of the attendance problems. I was very surprised to see the student section that empty. Was something else going on at campus or in the area that night. But yes, the small crowd is concerning.

We have to face it though, LU has a small fan base. Most folks in the region lie with UVa or VT. Then we have 5 other schools in VA to compete with for fans. It would be great if more of the online students took an active role with the school by coming to home games when they have an opportunity.

We definitely need to get the run game going. I'm didn't see much of the game, but I imagine the biggest problem is with run blocking.

And...

I hate open weeks!

The KSU game has me very worried. We will have to improve our performance substantially if we want to win that one.

My wife is an Alumni and I plan to get my graduate degree online with Liberty. I have already told her that I will be attending the games once I start grad school. Granted that will be sometime because I am still working on this undergrad lol. 6 years in the military can really put you off track lol.

RE: Guess the score
I can't find attendance numbers for 2016 but over the last 5 years here is how Liberty has stacked up in FCS.

2015 - #6 - 18,990
2014 - #5 - 17,016
2013 - #12 - 15,031
2012 - #11 - 16,318
2011 - #15 - 16,419

I think we'll be hard pressed this season to even equal the numbers from 2013. I know it is totally arbitrary, but in my mind we need to be averaging around 25,000 per game.

I know Lynchburg isn't a metropolis, and our fan base is greatly affected by the two FBS and one FCS team in our proximity, but we need to win more consistently, and against better competition, in order to get more fans in seats. But again, this is true of any team playing football.

RE: Guess the score
I think our attendance is down due to our record. The hardcore fans will come out regardless but the majority of fans are just looking for a good local team. We were 0-1 coming into Jacksonville and 1-2 going into Jacksonville State which we then lost. If we want to be "FBS ready" then we should consistently be top 10 or better in attendance and that is something that we the fans can actually control, unlike most things. Conferences will want a school that has strong fan support despite down seasons. Anyone can have great support during a great season, but only the great programs have support during the bad seasons. Those are the attractive programs.

As for my score prediction, I'll go with 17 - 13 Liberty.

Guess the score
24 Liberty
38 Kennesaw St.

I don't think our defense is up to the challenge on the road. K St. looks pretty solid. If we can win, which is very possible, it would be a pretty good win.

28 Kennesaw
24 Liberty

I think this is going to be a tough game. It should help coming off a bye week. I hope we're not over confident.

I saw the early line has us as a 6 point favorite. Surprising.

RE: Guess the score
Well they are only like a year removed from Division II, right? They can't be a powerhouse THAT fast. Don't misinterpret my comment as a "There's no way Liberty will lose." Any given Saturday, anything can happen. And aren't spreads meant to keep each side of the bet even? So the betting must be going whichever way to encourage more people to bet another direction.

Guess the score
Surprised and pleased by the result of the game. Defense gave up a lot, but the offense came through. Probert is the real deal huh!?!

If we can play with effort and efficiency there is no team left on the schedule we shouldn't beat. We still can improve on defense.

RE: Guess the score
I thought the defense did pretty good except they were susceptible to the big play. Our two goal line stands were great. Our special teams continues to hurt us, along with our third down conversions. Calvert looks pretty solid as a QB. I wasn't thrilled with a true freshman starting at QB at the beginning of the year and I wanted Masha to be rewarded for his prior work, but Masha wasn't "the man" and unfortunately had to be replaced.

Yes, Masha seems like such a great athlete. Wish we could get him on the field, but I know we can't risk hurting our back up QB. My understanding is they hope to redshirt the other FR QB.

RE: Guess the score
If the Owls team that lost to Presby shows up in Lynchburg today it will be a 3+ touchdown victory for LU.

That was a mostly good showing against Monmouth minus the strange lapse on defense at the end if the 3rd and start of 4th.

Seems like we are playing pretty good ball now. The defense is still giving up too much.

RE: Guess the score
Great win for the good guys for homecoming! I agree that we are hitting our stride right now. It is too bad we take so long to get up to speed each season. Are we better now or playing Big South competition?

Yes.

But, to be fair, we did play 2 decent FBS teams and an FCS powerhouse earlier. It would have been pretty tough to win those games.

Guess the score
17 GW
59 Liberty

I'm going big! I'm dangerously buying into the hype of our current play!

But more than anything, besides a win, I am hoping for a crowd over 18,000.

I realize we played two decent FBS teams plus Jacksonville State, but we weren't even close with JSU and the other two we shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly and looked downright pathetic for much of the games. I didn't expect us to win any of those but I did expect us to compete and play much better than we did. We'll see how grown up we truly are once we play Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina.
