Top 25?
Several teams at the back end of the top 25 lost and a few fringe teams lost as well. We have a chance to crack the top 25...

Georgia lost, Utah, TCU, and Texas. San Diego State is on the verge and some fringe teams like Wake Forrest went down as well.

RE: Top 25?
Northwestern's win over Iowa, Illinois looking respectable at Nebraska, OK St. over Texas all help the perception of the MAC.

Even the commentators said the Broncos look more like a Big Ten team than a G5 team.

NIU

...which in any normal year would be a heck of game. Still not quite sure what to make of the 2016 Huskies.

Need Boise to go down tonight and, hate to say it now, but WMU will be in driver's seat to claim a New Year's Day bowl slot if Houston wins out.

Uh, if Houston wins out, they're in the drivers seat. If they make the playoff, that is the access bid. There isn't a 2nd one then.

I don't believe that is correct. If Houston gets selected for CFP, that opens a New Year's Day slot for top ranked G5 team. And the Cougs will be in CFP if they win out.

McMurphy from ESPN already was told otherwise the week after Houston beat Oklahoma.

Well, I'll look into the scenarios some more. But am going to be pissed if we somehow are able to run the table and are awarded with a game against South Alabama in the GMAC Bowl.

RE: Top 25?
I would like to think that with Houston in the playoff they would still take an undefeated WMU for an at large NY6. But I have my doubts.

RE: Top 25?
Loss by CMU to UVA last week didn't help. Neither did last nights Toledo loss at BYU. We don't have a quality opponent left on the schedule unless Toledo wins their remaining games before the big matchup.

The only poll that matters is the last one.

Being ranked would be nice but without a MACC trophy means nothing.

RE: Top 25?
I do think we'll be ranked today after so many teams near the bottom half of the Top 25 lost.

NW winning at Iowa was good for us in multiple ways: it makes our win over them look better, and I also see fewer voters casting votes for NDSU since Iowa appears to not be all that good (sorry, Whinny).

Who would've thought five weeks into the season we'd be looking at a Top 25 that includes us, but does not include MSU?

No, it is. CFP is a NY6 bowl. It counts as the same, you can look it up. Not to say we still couldn't be eligible if we were highly ranked in the nation -- but there would be no more Guaranteed G5 spot. That would be taken by the Playoff.
