RE: App hosting Ga State Oct 1, NOON kickoff
Let's get some real discussion going.

GA St. may have the best WRs in the SBC, don't sleep on those guys. For GA St. to win they will likely need to be +2 in TO margin, so no mistakes guys.

Pound Moore and Evans and take the passes where GA St. gives them. On defense it will come down to how well we pressure and they haven't given up a lot of sacks. If we get pressure our pass defense scheme works, if not expect them to get sizable yardage through the air.

Need to break their spirit early in this one as I think we'll see their offense gain steam if we allow them to hang around.

Doesn't Penny have an ankle sprain or something and is listed as questionable?

He's playing, and will be a tough match-up similar to Akron's small/quick WR.

Penny's back will play and I think 2-3 starters on defense who missed the Wisconsin game.

Gonna be a good game (I hope), but looks like perfect football weather... winning in Boone will be a tall order, if GSU can get any type of running game (just to keep App's defense honest), that should open our passing game. Manning seems to be improving, though the O-line is still a huge question mark for me. The defense looked terrible in the first two games, played much better against Wisconsin, so who knows?

I want to think it will be a better game than the last two...maybe steal a win (turnovers will be key), but not expecting that.

This game should feature Apps running attack against GaSt's passing attack. Neither defense has been able to stop the other so far this season. I do think the advantage to App is that they have shown a real balance on offense against their G-5 opponents and GaSt has been real one dimensional. If App can cover Hart and Davis over the top they should win this game by a couple of scores; it not it could be another video game like Akron. Here's hoping the App defense puts together an entire game against the Panthers and prevents any real suspense. Going to be a beautiful fall day at The Rock.

RE: App hosting Ga State Oct 1, NOON kickoff
Penny was listed as questionable early in the week, so even if he plays cant imagine he will be full strength. I don't think defensive stats from the first 3 or 4 games show an accurate picture of each team, GSU is giving up close to 300 yds a game on the ground, but they played 3 teams that traditionally are some of the best running teams in the country, same with App and the passing game, we have given up a ton of passing yds the last 2 weeks, but that was because we played two of the best passing teams in the country. GSU needs a more balance offense, their in a lot of trouble if they rush for 50 or 60 yds. Hoping that last weeks greatly improved passing game is a sign of things to come moving into the SBC schedule, if we can throw the ball like we did last week, coupled with our running game, we would be really tough to stop.

The day will come when streaming packages will command a significant enough audience that schools can control their own kick times again. TV still holds all the cards but methinks that won't stand pat forever.

I want to say we have a chance. The homer in me says we can win. But the realist looks at the past two matchups and says can we keep the margin less than 20? We tend to play better on the road, but Boone wasn't very hospitable the first time around. At least the forecast is in the 60s. it is one thing to get beat. It is another to get boat raced. If we get boat raced again, all the positives from Wisconsin for Miles are thrown out the window.

I don't for a second see Ga State stopping our running game, but their offense does worry me. If the Panthers passing attack is hot, our secondary will likely give up enough stuff underneath to warrant us pressing on coverage. Then the big play becomes more of a possibility.

If our RBs average over 6 yards a carry collectively and we are positive in TO margin, Apps roll.

I'd take App by 17 in this one.

Going to happen sooner than a lot of people think, esp at the G5 level. It's a major driving force behind all the regional conference talk.

Yep, at which point schools will no longer be beholden to scattered and patchy tv networks. We can kick when we want for most games and only have to adjust for worthy (espn 1 or 2) events.

Still, it's good to know App football is attractive to someone behind a desk. We're not going to displace P5 games at 3:30...just not going to happen unless Sunbelt signs a deal with a FS1 or the like.

odds are good this will not be a beat down, our defense isn't as good as the last two times we played GSU. Offensively, Apps OL might be one of the top ten in the country in terms of run blocking, and probably a top 20 overall, I don't think we will have a problem moving the ball, but I can also see GSU moving up and down the field. GSU wants a track meet, App wants a slower pace, grinding them down kind of game.

App is going to run a 3-1-7 defense to stop the pass and take its chances with the run.

According to some people we'll be running a 1-5-5

RE: App hosting Ga State Oct 1, NOON kickoff
I just don't see Georgia State having the ability to overcome what they have done in the past; 1.5 PPG against App. The QB play and offensive line haven't been as good as last years team that managed to score three points and they are being out rushed at a ratio of 9:1 and are averaging 21 minutes in time of possession. They are incredibly inefficient.

The first half of the game may be slow going as App works the running game, likely getting to a score of 17-0 by halftime, simply due to the fact that State is likely to have a couple of three and outs and App will go on 4 and 5 minute drives. The second half is where this will get out of hand as the holes get bigger. GSU couldn't move the ball that well with Arbuckle and I expect the same thing to happen in this game.

38-6 Final

App is going to sell out to stop the run. Despite GSU not running well, they will have to at least try to have a semblance of balance, which will most likely lead to many drives being off schedule. The defense will play back and keep everything in front of them, forcing the QB to properly read zone coverage which will likely result in a few sacks.

GA St. really hasn't given up a lot of sacks though. Without pressure GA St. should be able to move the ball with those stud WRs. App fans expecting GA St. to only score 14 or less are going to be disappointed IMO.

App is going to sell out and stop the run?
App D - giving up 145 yds rushing / 275 yds passing
GaSt O - gaining 46 yds rushing / 202 yds passing

This is kind of how I see the set up for this game.

Coach Satterfield:

Coach Miles:

Panthers CAN win, they just have to visualize and attack!

It may be solely due to the 3 timeouts/fake FG for a TD thing that makes me think this way. And before someone says it, 34-7, I know.
