I think I got it into my head that we were at (or worse off) the same point that we were when we started our transition. Even then we had 74 on scholarship. Right now we have 68.

Fran made this schedule and Fran left us with this mess. We don't have the lines and we don't have depth. Look at the huge example we got tonight when Cattaneo went out.

Ah Fran, Like herpes, the gift that keeps on giving . . . (so I hear).

Welcome to Withers...his O will kill his D. Sometimes it doesn't matter, but it can get ugly when the O isn't producing.
Gee, it couldn't have anything to do with losing 53 players, playing with 68 scholarships, 47 walk-ons, 10 freshmen playing, only 12 returning guys with any PT and playing the #6 team (and #1 D) in the country, could it? 07-coffee3

Oh yes. I remember Withers playing the #s game in 2014. He blamed the previous staff for weak recruiting and no offseason training. in 2015, his D was even worse. Withers's biggest scapegoat is always the previous staff/players.

Believe whatever you want, but I have far more experience watching his "defense" than you.

It won't get any better. Take it or leave it....but don't say you weren't warned.

Defense wasn't horrible but kept giving up third and longs and fourth down conversions. It's got a lot of work to do but I trust the DC. He's different than the JMU guy.

Yeah, we play the #1 defense in the country and he is going to tell us it's Withers fault when our D was the best thing out there. Houston's D has given up 2.36 INCHES, per carry on the ground and that's with playing #3 Oklahoma and Cincinnati but, you know, we should have been better.

Um... except we do have a depleted and inexperienced roster that just played the #6 team in the country (with playoff aspirations). It will most certainly get better because we don't have anyone else on our schedule nearly as good. No offense to APP, and Troy who appear to be doing better than us. Just saying that this is the worst we'll do this year.

SMH. . . . . . Why are you even here? Don't you have an FCS schedule to fret over?

Some vague plans to join CUSA or something? They ARE going to call you aren't they? Well aren't they?

No idea. I'm here because Withers coached JMU last year, and pulled the same ****. Dude knows nada about D.

Anywho....so whats the expecation after 4 games of #partyintheendzone?

At least we have run the gauntlet and we won't face anything like that again until our bowl game! Assuming we roll over our FCS opponent I feel like 4 conference wins is pretty doable.

5 or 6 wins. 3 to 4 wins were our preseason expectations. We pulled one upset in 3 un-winable games.

You clearly don't understand how depleted our roster is.

Dude, you crack me up . . . . Does Withers know of your never ending obsession with him? Has he filed a Restraining Order on you yet?

Ok . .. We're in a Transition slash Rebuilding year . . . . Most "Professional" Prognosticators Project that we'll win 3 maybe 4 games all year . . ..

. . . so anything over 4, I'm calling a successful season . . .

To your specific question, after 4 games, I'm expecting to be 2-2 . . . . a record most Bobcats would have been happy with before the season began . . .

Some takes from the post game pressers:

There will be a lot of position changes next week.

During halftime, there were several guys, that weren't even playing, looking in the mirror, primping. For the cameras? For family? The fans? who the hell knows. I

There were guys dancing (I guess to the band or stadium music) when the team was being crushed.

(in reference to the above, at the end, Withers threw our 3rd string QB in, instead of our 2nd string guy....hmmmm)

I feel some suspensions or dismissals coming.

For you young guys,
Primping - to spend time making minor adjustments to (one's hair, makeup, or clothes):

We have developed some consistency over the first three games of the season. We are currently ranked #127 in total defensive yardage allowed out of 128 teams and #127 in total offensive yardage. It is difficult to achieve that kind of consistency. Offensively we rank ahead of only Georgia State. We play them in two weeks. That game should be a classic.

We can change that by getting our whipping boy team next week. After be that team for two weeks it'll be nice to be on the other side.

That tends to happen when you have 1 less game than most other teams and 2/3 of your games have been against ranked opponents. I think the Ohio game is more indicative of how we are going to do this year in the belt.

RE: #6 Houston @ Texas State - ESPNU Game Thread
My thoughts on yesterday:

Friends that live in San Marcos said the Square on Friday night was the most crowded she had ever seen. The tailgate was amazing, many beverages were consumed.

As for the game the crowd was good. My coaches tickets put me and my friends in the upper deck in the northwest corner, first time I had ever sat there. The pregame Texas State chant seemed really weak. I almost couldn't hear it, seemed louder vs Southern Miss last year. I'm not sure if it was because I was in the upper deck or if the crowd was just that quiet. That first drive was promising for our defense, I mean to hold their offense to 3 and out is impressive. Unfortunately they got 4th down easily. Greg Ward is quick AF! Then they scored and scored and scored. Me and my friends did the Bobcat thing and left before halftime. If I didn't see the second half did it really happen? The score was discouraging but I'm excited to see how we look in the SBC.

The Square afterwards was pretty great. Not as crowded as I expected. Looked like a typical gameday crowd, just with a little red mixed in. Also UHs girls were prettier than I expected. Not like TXST girls but not bad.

And to the JMU guys, we know our defense is bad.. It's not Withers' fault. Our D was awful last year, and it won't be fixed in one year. How many times do we have to tell y'all? I guess as many times as y'all have to come remind us about how butt hurt y'all are that we hired him.

The defense has been consistent through three games, consistently bad. The offense scored six points in two games against two good defenses. The question is can this offense score enough to get to six wins? Can Tyler Jones play well enough to find six wins? Jones was overmatched the last two weeks. It just bothers me when the offense looks that bad...which is validated by the #127 ranking on offense in FBS football.

I think the answers to your questions are yes and yes. Everyone has been overmatched by Ark and UH. Arkansas played terrible in their opener against La Tech but they got the win and never looked back after beating a ranked TCU team. UH is ranked #6 for a reason and they came in and showed us that reason. Your asking our bad Oline to play one dimensionally against ranked teams with an entire game worth of stats missing on top of that... We could have done better, no question, but I think your getting a little caught up in the 127 ranking so early and under the circumstances.
