I love that! I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I don't like to see one of my schools trashed on inaccurate information.

I used to hear also that Memphis prepared its law school graduates more for the real world of lawyering by great internships. But it's like comparing apples and oranges. The graphics I just looked at show that a large percentage of Vandy's law school graduates take jobs in NYC and D.C. and all over the country, possibly back in their home states, while many Memphis graduates stay in this region.

My dad practiced law here 65 years after graduating from the seminal Normal School at Memphis (U of M), and then UT night school here. My grandfather "read law" here and started practice here in 1914. I graduated from Vandy and spent a summer at Memphis State. Both good experiences. BTW, Vandy now offers a complete free ride for anyone who can get in, so money is not a part of the "perceived" snobbery.

I was 1988 when Watson Brown was there. Rained straight down from 2nd qtr till into late 3rd qtr. I walked in between the barns with some of the Vandy crowd. Was 100% chance of Noah's ark and they are walking in with Armani, Gucci, stilettos and the like without even an umbrella. I have on a flannel shirt and rubber muck boots with my blue jeans tucked in so they wouldn't get wet and a green poncho in tow. They snickered and laughed as I walked by.

It rained so hard you could not see Watson on the other sideline from the Memphis side. I must admit that I laughed as the rats dressed in their Armani and Gucci abandoned ship. Was a great day to be a Tiger. Watson was gone soon after.

I was at Vandy when Watson was the quarterback. He left the last football game in a helicopter to see his sister get married. That was pretty impressive. I remember he also broke his leg one year.

Vandy's court might not support a serious flyer

In that arena, DJ could have launched to about the tenth row. We all saw him jump over another player from head to foot, and we saw him start to fly so he wouldn't land on a child when he ran out of bounds one time.

Vandy doesn't have any fans. Especially ones that travel, even if it's to Murfreesboro.
And the reason Vandy does not have as many fans is because 90% of the students are from all over the country, so their parents don't live in Tennessee, and when they graduate, 90% of them leave Tennessee. Not many local alums.

At Vandy, unlike FedEx Forum & most arenas, the court boundary is 20ft or more from the edge of the floor surface while FedEx Forum is about 5 ft. from the 1st row of seats. That difference would keep even DJ on the floor at Vandy.

IIRC the team benches are on the baselines as opposed to the sidelines

I think you have your states mixed up.

They are talking about Bowling Green, KY, home of the Corvette Museum and Western KY not Bowling Green U in Ohio

Sure as hell don't need to be playing road games at WKU after all the Sun Belt or whatever road games our amazing AD has scheduled.

RE: Have we ever tried to schedule Vandy in anything?
Dont' kid yourselves - every G5 and half the P5 schools in the country would love to get Vandy on the schedule. It's the SEC school everyone has a legit shot to beat, they offer up a sizeable payout to schools who play there, they provide some free publicity for the school in one of the larger, more educated cities in the south, and it's a way to associate with an impressive academic school. Memphis would have stiff competition to get the 'dores.
If Memphis and Vandy haven't played in so long it's probably because Vandy is fighting off schools who want to schedule them. I root for them because my parents went there and they always try to schedule the schools who have the same issues they do - upper-tier academics trying to compete in big time sports: Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, TCU, Northwestern, Duke, etc. And frankly, from Vanderbilt's perspective, that's who they should be playing.

Frankly, though, whoever schedule Memphis's recent non-con schedule has done a decent job, and just so happened to do it at the opportune time. An FCS team at home to warm up with, then the worst P5 school in the land coming to the Liberty Bowl, then a reasonable MAC team, and then a trip to Ole Miss? Three home games out of four, and a local heavy for a reach game = Solid scheduling by the Tigers.

EDIT: Actually, looking at the entire schedule now it looks even better. Memphis may have one of the best G5 schedules in the country, altogether. USF could be ranked when the come to Memphis and Houston could be undefeated. If the Tigers can somehow get past BG and win at Ole Miss they are set up for success the rest of the year, even with a potential loss or two.

I cannot find the numbers to back up these boasts. I know the U of M says this about their graduation rates.

93 percent of Vandy grads are employed nine months after graduation, and 5 percent go on to further graduate school. That is 98%.

Memphis' grads are employed at 98%.

Vandy and Memphis law students in 2015 both passed the bar at the rate of about 72 percent, while UT's law students passed the bar at 83%.

Vandy is very diverse and not necessarily snobby. That is a label thrown at a school by someone who knows little about it and may feel "less than" for invalid reasons. Vandy attracts students from across the nation and is very selective, and many of those students leave Tennessee after graduation to practice law in other states.

Vandy Tiger

I graduated from law school in 1998. Back then our "claim to fame" was having a higher bar pass rate than UT and Vandy for many years running. Obviously that was a long time ago.

Like most rates, they can change with the wind.

Vandy just doesn't have the drive to succeed in football. It's obvious with a fight song that goes, "down the field with blood to yield".

Like it or not, Memphis folks will come out to see Memphis play regional P5 schools compared to FCS & Kansas. And we need butts in the seats & the credibility wins among this group would give us.

Very true. Memphis should have a lot better FB schedule . V tech and Arz st inroads with coaches should help. Would like to see Arky ,Vandy , Kty down the road. Not being in the P5 , it is a must to schedule better . And LB needs to drop Big 12 like it's hot.

I remember a long time ago the Tigers were playing Vandy in football one afternoon at Vandy. They were really bad and there were very few Vandy fans at the game.

Late in the game, Vandy got the lead and Jack Eaton said the dorms were emptying and students were coming to the game to take part in a victory.
