Anyway, absolutely no way to know who's got what yet on the top end, too much diversity in schedule plus you really don't know what the teams we have played really have either. It will all clear up over the next few weeks and we'll know before everyone gets into conference play.

I think all we know right now is that we have some really bad teams and some marginally bad teams. Don't really know if we just have some decent teams or maybe a few good teams.

I know these WKU fans are prima donnas, rather have a compliment than the truth. Other than the two sacks, it wasnt pretty for WKU.

This week's games should defintely be more telling

WKU defense held Bama to 124 yds on 39 carries (3.2 yds / carry). I would say this may be their lowest run yardage total of the season. IMO, this is not being manhandled. We are one of the few teams to hold them under 200 total rushing yards in the last few years.

That's because Alabama had 351 yards of passing. That's more passing yards than any Alabama game last year and Alabama played Middle, ULM and Charleston southern. That's probably a combination of not having Derrik Henry and Kiffen wanting to exploit WKU secondary. Alabama would have probably had 100 more passing yards without all those penalties

1. WKU-Defense looks legit, offense can be good, OL can take us a long way this season
2. La Tech-impressive what they did at Arkansas, have to admit a surprise to me with what they lost on offense this past season
3. Southern Miss-Beating UK May not be too impressive haha, but still have a solid team
4. Marshall-Beating FCS teams is what Marshall does with regularity
5. UTEP-Aaron Jones back seems like has lead to an improvement with this team

Non bowling teams:
6. MTSU-Have to be able to play some defense
7. FAU-looks familar

Everyone else with about the usual bottom teams not doing so great..

1) USM - Kentucky's 45-7 loss yesterday to a mediocre Florida (ranked 5th in SEC by ESPN), takes a little shine off of USM's win over the Mildcats the previous week. Kentucky is currently ranked dead last in the 14-team SEC. Still USM is getting it done every week.
2) LA Tech - After yesterday's win over TCU, Week 1 opponent Arkansas (#4 in the SEC) may be even better than we thought. LA Tech's 1-pt loss at Arkansas not looking too bad now.
3) WKU - No doubt WKU is a good team, but I was very disappointed in the 28-point whipping they took from Alabama. I was expecting a 7-10 point game. Yes, BAMA may be the best team in college football, but WKU should be past the point of getting manhandled like that.
4) Marshall - Too early to tell. But history says the Herd deserves top billing in the East.
5) MTU - Biggest disappointment of the day. Vanderbilt? Seriously? And by 20 points? Sorry guys, but Vandy is ranked 13th in the SEC. This loss was embarrassing to our conference.

At this point, it's almost impossible to tell if anyone else has improved. No one stands out from the rest at this point.

Serious? I am not sure what school would not be whipped at this point by BAMA....USC got more manhandled then we did...So every team in the nation is past the whipping BAMA would give?

Bama, under the current regime, has a history of not pounding the poor.
Was glad to see Hopson at USM follow that line of thought. From the middle of the 3rd it was a glorified practice session for the backups to run clock.

Yep, Middle 37-10, ULM 34-0.

RE: Week 2 Power Rankings
Still laughing at the Marshall glossover of running it up on MSU. Those UNT guys don't like us much. We scored 49 points on them in a half and that's it. Defense got the other two touchdowns and scrubs played most of the second half. Doc doesn't run it up. In fact, in 2014, if he cared about style points we could have probably turned some heads earlier on but he always called off the dogs with a 3-4 touchdown lead.

Can't tell a defensive player not to score off a fumble recovery. Might be their only TD in their career, especially a 96-yarder.

Why is NMSU a bad team? They just beat their other big rival and should be an improved team this year.

We have no problem with Marshall. In fact I'm fairly sure most Mean Green fans have a very healthy respect for Marshall. When a FBS team as good as Marshall schedules an FCS team, it usually needs in a very lopsided score.

For what it is worth, I ranked Marshall right behind Southern Miss and LA Tech, although Marshall might be the better team. I just can't get a feel for how good they are after only one game against an extremely outmatch FCS program. 04-cheers

That is a very fair assessment...id rank us 4th right now at best... Now if we pummel Akron... Then the stock may rise depending on other CUSA games..

Fair enough...I just didn't want people who didn't watch the game to think we just kept hammering at them full strength. We usually just follow the same formula. 3/4 with starters and 4th with backups if the lead warrants it. We may still throw the ball in the 4th but it's to get game experience with a backup QB, which is the only reason to play these games in the first place.

As a NT guy, I have no idea why you think Marshall is any special concern of NT fans. NT was so bad last year that I doubt any one game registers much unless it is the Portland State debacle.

To infer that anyone is rating Marshall low because of last years' game is silly.

He's not talking about a game last year. He's laughing at the fact that a UNT fan suggested that we ran the score up on Morgan State when we had two defensive touchdowns and ran the ball the second half...
