App Postgame: Good, Bad, and Ugly
Tough loss against a good team, a few unlucky moments, but overall AppNation should be optimistic for the remainder of the season.

GOOD:
- DEFENSE - front seven may be even better than last year even without Blair, I know it's deeper. I was surprised to see Stout #92 win the starting role, but after the game it's clear he has made huge strides. Our LBs as a whole are as good as any in the conference.
- OLINE - great run blocking
- COX - held on the ball, and displayed incredible vision, wouldn't trade him for anyone
- KICKOFFS - completely took a weapon away from UTk
- Punt returns - Capel should have fair caught that ball, but otherwise great decisions

BAD:
- predicable snap count, DE#9 for UTk timing his jump every third down and pressured Lamb
- WR separation - they were jammed at the line all night and Lamb didn't have enough time due to pass blocking (I think because of snap count)

UGLY*:
- *Small body of work and not fair to throw a freshman under the bus as it was his first college game in that atmosphere. He'll be fine longterm, I hope he gets to kick 5-6 PATs and a couple FGs next week.

Saint, don't judge your right tackle too harshly. As you said Barnett was timing the snap all night and he will be drawing an above the table paycheck this time next year.

I couldn't help but think that I was watching GS vs. UGA from last year all over again... so many similarities including the final result.

Great effort by your team, you'll be fine, but that kicking game might come back and bite you in the azz again.

On another note, I wonder if the North Dakota State fanbase is watching what you and GS have accomplished in such a short time and thinking "why can't we do the same thing?"

I really think the kicker will right the ship, hopefully next week. That was a tough place to have your first college game.

And I agree the RT, RG, and C may all be all-SBC teamers at year's end. The freshman LT played better than expected as well.

I'm no kicking coach and don't pretend to be but his entire motion seemed off last night. I haven't been able to watch practice to see if he has a tendency to push the ball to the right but it seemed that his motion can be attributed to that happening twice. The way he leans left and pushes his leg through instead of swinging his leg through is something that can be fixed but I'm not sure if it'll be this season.

Nice effort by the Appys. No moral victories but that was a fine showing on national tv. i expect app to beat miami.

Except they actually put up a fight in OT.

I may be wrong but it might be tougher for App to beat Miami now than it would have been had Tennessee played lights out. I mean if the score would have been more like 35-17 as many predicted Miami may have not taken App as seriously as they now should.

Go to the Miami boards. Many of them are saying the same exact thing the Tennessee fans were saying despite the result of the game last night. They mention Kaaya being able to throw the ball better than Dobbs as evidenced by Tennessee's lack of a passing game, yet they fail to mention the multiple pressures and sacks App had due to the coverage down field, including Clifton Duck.

ODU's game was postponed to Sunday which means they will be operating this coming week on a compressed schedule. Hopefully App comes out and shows that the performance against Tennessee wasn't due to poor play. I really think the close game with UT coupled with a beat down of ODU (however mediocre they may be, they were still a .500 team in C-USA), is exactly what the doctor ordered for this C-USA vs. Sun Belt crap.

Miami ranked 101 in Run Defense last year. They're gonna need to step up big to slow down Cox and Co.

And they just kicked two of their best defensive players off the team...

The reports out of camp were that he could hit from distance but that h e was inconsistent. You overlook missing the FG given the environment. Harder to accept the missed PAT.

That was a great, tough and physical game. App State is a very good team. What does the k mean?

Kicking woes can be a game changer. GS has had our fare share of those in the past and I for one hope that we never see it again. At one point in 2014 making extra points got louder applause from the home crowd than actual touchdowns...lol.

Your kicker is young and I'm sure he will improve but if he still has issues next weekend you may be in for a long season in the kicking game.

That he is better than Vernon Butler. That is exactly what he meant. I'm a Panthers fan and dude has been passed around like a ragdoll against practice squad players.05-stirthepot

Oh, and that it is likely that most players at the Big SEC schools are receiving kickbacks.

Lamb will likely make it in coaching if that's what he decides to do but it's pretty obvious there is no future as a professional player.
