Had our chances to win and didn't. No moral victories here.

That's how I felt last night but now I'm torn.

We should have won that game, and we had a good number of self-inflicted mistakes that cost us the game. That sucks.

On the other hand, we just went to overtime against a top 10 SEC team. We led almost all of regulation, the coaching staff and players did a hell of a job. Tennessee had to get multiple lucky bounces and self inflicted mistakes from us to eek out the win. Tough not to take some kind of moral victory from that.

I'm super excited for the season, proud of the team and pissed off that we didn't close it out.

I head the App State kicker trend to hang himself last night, but he couldn't kick the stool out. 03-lmfao

In all seriousness, congrats App. You guys had that game and should have won. Now run the table.

I get that you are new this season, but we've seen this gimmick before on CSNbbs(any message board really).

You are not the first to attempt the Macho Man villain role and you won't be the last.

Just figured I'd help you out

I know exactly how you feel....we've had 3 games against P5's lately that we pissed away and it rips your heart out every time.

Having experienced this type of loss last year I can tell you it sucks but App played a hell of a game and in the end if you win the rest of them (minus one in Statesboro) App will probably be the Sun Belt's first ranked team. Even this loss will help you achieve that goal so long as Tennessee does what they are supposed to the rest of the season.

well, we got close but no cigar, unlike some Ark State fans, pulling for the rest of the league to win their opening games, and to especially win against the P5 competition in the upcoming weeks, looking at you GS, you've got the best chance against Georgia and especially GT, make us proud!!

A few things...Brent Musburger is a douche bag...I've hated him for 30 years...great game Appy...for the most part you out played UT... three big things...1) missed PAT 2) missed field goal and 3) didn't recover the ball in the end zone in OT...you get just 1 of those 3 plays to go your way you win. I know moral victories can suck but you all embarrassed what they say is #9 in FBS...nicely done!

BTW App...you might find it hard to get a P5 to play you all on September 1st in the future...you seem to own that day of the season.

Just popping back in, but after Butch and Satterfield shook hands after the game, he went over and addressed some of the Mountaineer players. Has anyone heard what he my have said?

I did see that and was very impressed with it. Not sure what he said but just the fact that he took time to go over there and give praise was enough for me, much respect on that. Butch probably poured him a stiff drink after this game but that was a great thing to see.

Not sure if I'm misreading here but we don't play Georgia this year.

Looking forward to the GT game though.

The App lineman to the left looked like he wanted to punch Butch.

Maybe its just me, but I feel like he was unintentionally talking down to them by doing it. Butch wouldn't do that with a close game vs any P5 opponent.

RE: GAMEDAY THREAD: App State at Tennessee 7:30pm et SEC Network
I think Butch talking to our kids was a mixture of survival elation and genuine respect. He has been around football for most of his life, he knew they basically won on a handful of prayer plays that could have went either way. He also will watch game film on both sides of the ball particularly the trenches. What I noticed for around 3 1/2 quarters was 2 star recruits at best pushing around three, four, and five star players in their own stadium. The zone run game and a 200 lb running back looked like the Crimson Tide and Derrick Henry were playing at times. I'm depressed we lost but looking at our OL and DL play against players with more talent and size I have to be optimistic for the rest of the season.

I thought the UT fans booing our players for cramping was on par with what I know of them. It was however effective at times to realign the games pace back to how we like it. I didn't believe any of our kids were diving however.

Don't worry App fans. I was rooting for you. Then I was going to root for you to win all of your other OOC games but lose all of your conference games except Idaho and NNSU. That way we could say Tenn and Miami couldn't even compete in the Belt.

I think the biggest reason stAte fans had trouble rooting for y'all is because we don't play you. If we did, the better you are when we beat you, the sweeter it will be. If y'all had won and then we are both going through the year undefeated, we all know y'all would be getting all the love (since you already get it) and there'd be noting we could do about it. If we played played and won we could prove everyone wrong, lose and we shut up because you earned it and we no longer have something to complain about.

Great effort, App! I watched the game with a couple of hog fan relatives of mine, and we were all pulling for the upset. They didn't join in on my "SBC! SBC! SBC!" chant, but they were still cheering for APP with me.

It's hard to pull out the victory on the road against P5 teams.

Despite the loss, App earned the country's respect with their play last night.

Nicely done.
