At least your honest about it. It doesn't change the fact that psychologically there's something wrong with that. I know people like to use the phrase, "Do what makes you happy." But they don't really mean it if you can't be happy unless it's at somebody else's expense. You're a teenager right? Maybe you'll grow out of it.

When it comes to sports it's perfectly acceptable to root against teams.

(No really. It's ok)

If you grew up in Arkansas, you'd understand where we come from a little better. It's considered a crime here practically to cheer for an instate team to lose. We've been told for years that the reason Arkansas State fans were horrible people is because we cheered for the Razorbacks and UCA to lose.

For many of us, we'd honestly hope and prefer everyone rooted for us to get our brains beat in. We'd rather be hated and vilified than universally loved.

Correct. I don't mind being the bad guy. It's a necessary role and frankly we fill it pretty well.

It certainly is and I've done it before. Just us decent people don't have to be an outrageous dickhead to everybody who doesn't cheer for our team. There are people who are great at trolling, and I enjoy watching them work. You're not one of them. And it would be better for everybody here if you stopped. You're an absolute ******* in every thread because your buddy chiefsfan lets you get away with it, but it does nothing but take perfectly acceptable threads and ruin them and I don't understand why you feel like you have to do that. Why do you have to pick a fight in every single thread?

Hell of a game App.

It was fun to watch and heart breaking in the end.

We feel your pain.. been there (not Neyland of course, but P5 games) sooooo close so many times. Sometimes the blow outs are easier to accept, although not as easy to keep your head up about. You guys have every reason to keep your heads up.

I didn't read this whole thread, just the last couple of pages.

I can say that I and many of my friends were pulling for you guys, as weird as that is to do 04-cheers

I was disappointed that you guys got so ultra conservative late in the game and tried to run it up the middle way too much. I agree with running the clock, but I was worried when y'all started that.

Some questionable clock management late, and play calling cost you.
Couldn't believe they called a screen and took the chance of losing yardage on third down after the punt return. Just DANG. Was hoping your kicker would get a chance at redemption.
The flash backs to our game against the dawgs were real and made it even more frustrating.

Good luck until we meet in Statesboro 04-cheers

I'm pretty let down that all SBC fans don't pull for all members in every OOC contest. I guess you guys are okay with the current perception of the SBC in the proverbial basement of FBS.

It's not an either-or. It seems like everyone here wants us to lose conference games, but in the Go Daddy Bowl thread or the UGA game thread it seemed like everyone was giving us moral support.

I think Wolf Bird might be pulling for App to lose out of saltiness like the posters on the StAte board that are complaining about the "love" App gets for the 11-2 season.

StAte might've played a tougher non-conference schedule last year but that team that got blown out at Toledo last year might not have beaten ODU in Norfolk and the team that got blasted by La Tech probably wouldn't beat Ohio, so I don't see why you have the resentment there for not having it together for non-conference games.

Personally, I think you root for App in this game. If it gets to the point where the same team from a G5 conference is beating Power 5 teams sure it only benefits that team and not the conference, but we aren't there yet as App has not done that well in P5 games at all since they beat Michigan.

Just my 2 cents.

Meh..one game is going to make little difference in that perception. Especially when the SBC perception now is that we have three pretty good teams, and 8 really horrible teams.

What we honestly need are the bottom teams stepping up. That's going to increase perception even more than App beating Tennessee.

That's certainly a part of it. The biggest beef you'll see on our board is that our win over App last year is almost completely forgotten.

The issue I have is that most of that is our own doing...not media randomly deciding to take it away from us. If we had won either the Toledo or Mizzou game last year and beaten Tech in the bowl, we're likely getting a lot of the same coverage.

We're used to being slighted, so anything that even looks remotely like that happening again is going to be picked up on by our fans. Admittedly, the way Benson handled the trophy snafu last year is not helping. The perception in Jonesboro is that the Conference office wants us to fail. None of that is App's fault, but that's still playing a big role.

Yes and no. Winning every possible OOC game will help the SBC. A rising tide raises all ships.

I agree. I just think that even if App, stAte, and GS all put up 10 win seasons, a lot of that accomplishment would be looked down upon if Texas State, ULM, NMSU, and Idaho all struggled to win 3 games.

The perception becomes we have 3 good teams who may or may not be really good because they get 7-8 free wins a year in league play.

How can it be forgotten if it accounts for about 90% of the arguments directed at App anytime you guys get into some sort of disagreement?

Seriously, there are plenty of GaSt posters who don't bring up the score of our game last year as much as Wolf Bird and his friends call back to their win in Boone.

That said... I knew App was doomed tonight. Everything was going well until Parker Collins lost his helmet and had to come out for a play. You just can't possibly expect to compete in any way after suffering a blow like that 05-stirthepot05-stirthepot05-stirthepot

Even so, we'd be better off as a conference than we are now.

Remember that the MWC, circa 2004-2011, routinely had teams winning 10-11 games a year, sometimes 2 or 3 of them. Utah, TCU, and BYU all took turns finishing in the top 15 because they won a lot of games. They won tough non-league games and took care of business in league play. That league, too, had seveal teams every year who won 0-4 games/year. That kept Utah and TCU on the outside of the BCS Championship (that, and the obvious bias against non-AQ leagues), but their achievements earned the MWC status as the top non-AQ league.

To me, everyone in the league needs to win more outside the conference, but the teams that can help the conference's perception the most are the ones at the top, not the bottom.

The winning touchdown was a either bounce pass or a play you can't do in the NFL. I expect that to change in the off-season.

Had our chances to win and didn't. No moral victories here.

I was hoping APP pulled this one out. We were sitting in the stands watching Western play and had the last 5 minutes (and OT) playing on my phone. We had maybe 5 other fans sitting behind and beside us watching...

all pulling for APP

Got to be heart breaking to lose that game after out playing Tenn for most of it. Helluva job by the APP team and especially the defense.

App St played a heck of a game. Man, it's a shame that poor clock management probably cost you guys a win at the end of regulation, but I thought your team played lights out last night. The TV shots of the crowd when you guys were up 13-3 were priceless.
