I don't think he was doing his game watching parties at his house at the time or we would have all probably gone for the free drinks. Every time I saw him at the house, which was frequently, he was always wearing a coat and tie. I only mention this because he has been the subject of a lot of conversation and controversy on this board over the years.

Thanks for the photos. I had never been to his house and only heard about the game parties. I read where he had 31 big screen TV sets in his house in East Memphis.

Toured that house when I went through rush. I think there was a large framed painting of Robert E Lee over the fireplace in the living room. A few days later my roommate and I were over to the KA house to drink some beer with the KA's and we all got kind of loud. We were outside on the west side of the house. I had only been a student for a few days and being from Florida, knew nothing much about Memphis. Apparently, we got so noisy that the manager from the apartment complex across the street came over and told us to shut up because we were disturbing the tenants. The KA's were very polite to the manager and said we would all be leaving anyway. After he left...the KA's looked at me and said....do you know who that was? I said, no...had no idea. The told me that was a bad ass football player named John Bramlett and to never give him a hard time...ever.

You got that right. One time he beat up Harry Schuh so bad that Coach "Spook" Murphy told him that if he EVER touched another Tiger player, he'd be gone off the team.

John became a changed man later in life. He's deceased now.

BTW he was a Denver Bronco too. He almost won rookie of the year in the old AFL. Can't remember who beat him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but by 1990 the Lambda Chi house was over on Normal and was university owned. I was told that we the reason they couldn't have booze at that house.

The SAE, Pike, ATO and Fiji houses were all on Midland. KA and Sigma Chi were one street over.

We owned our own house so whoever was 21 could legally drink. Of course, most folks weren't but still did.

I think the biggest difference was that by 1990 the university Greek system policy outlawed kegs and any sort of common or community booze (like a big bowl of PGA punch).
Haha. Im older than you the legal drinking age was 18, it changed when i was freshman. If you were 18 beforeca certain date you were grandfathered in. So it didnt get really strict until all those 18 yr olds were 21 when i was senior. By the time the pikes were on midland it was 21 no matter what. We had pretty much free reign on zach curlin. We had 20 empty kegs in the back yard at one time that we took back, got the deposit and had a party. Pikes werent the same after the move. Things changed a lot in those 4 years. The legal drinking age changed and it was discovered you could die frorn sex. All in a four year period. Trust me, things changed.
It did change after the move. The old Delta House always had people hanging out before and after class. Incredible parties. But I sure as hell didn't know anything about not being able to have alcohol at the house on Midland. Seemed like we always did. Maybe that's why Singleton was always sniffing around.

Singleton. Wow. Lots to say about that guy.

RE: Frat houses
Interesting points on this subject. Obviously, most had a good experience during their college days. It's time to hopefully make the Greek system a strong one once again. I just have to say, look down the road to the south in Oxford. Greeks are in big strength there. Lots of today's leaders and successful business people are Greeks. Once a fraternity man or sorority sister always one. You can and will have life long relationships with good results. Besides young men and women need your influence for the good.

Working your way though college is no excuse for not being a part of it. If you're a student, you'll be studious no matter what you're doing. Greek participation will provide you other skills you can put to good use all your life.

Guidance/experience... provide it to the young so that they can grow up and be productive people.

I would love to know who belongs to what house on here. Are any others interested?
