What happened with Gettys? He had some interest from what I heard ,he is a big guy and could help a team with depth on the frontline. Also heard he might try going pro. His father told me he was offered by Ohio State-not buying that for one second.

LOL, i was late to the wagon but i've stood with you since. I think it was a mistake letting him go.

Better off without him is my take-I just wondered what happened. Besides he doesn't want to play here and so long little buddy.

You said better off without him even when he was playing well and making a difference. Let's face it if he was averaging a double double, you wouldn't like him. Ya didn't from day 1

The Mullet never could get over Gettys' whiteness. Maybe he'll play a postgraduate year in Sweden or northern Canada. That way he'll be a part of a whole team of players that The Mullet can look askance toward...

Or........................ maybe he'll play a year in the Bahamas subsequently getting a tan that would make him acceptable to the "mullet standards"
Why would YOU want a guy that does not want to play for UNCW? Gettys is a bit of a nutjob but he did play ok at times-nothing to write home about -IMO.
I am not sure why the coach allowed the other kid to return after asking for a transfer release. I know it was the free agent period and all that crap now but I just don't get it.

He wants gone, i'm good with it. Just wish that wasn't the case. Who was going to leave and didn't?

Chuck Ogbodo was granted a release from what I heard but is returning.

Cut Chuck a break. I think he overdosed on a bad batch of Claflin and wasn't in control of his faculties when he made the initial decision to leave....
I was really hoping that the staff would try to keep him because you can't teach size. He may have not been perfect but who is. I wish him well and I'm sure that he can help Rutgers in some capacity.

That seems like an awful step backwards. Seems like he left thinking there would be a load of big program offers.
Well, it is the Big Ten.....
Can't really argue with the exposure the B10 Network will give him towards perhaps a European career. Meanwhile he'll get to spend his season playing a lot of games close to home and family in Ohio.

Yeah, but he WILL be missing that Claflin game.....
Good luck to Gettys but he does not fit our style of play, and doesn't have the athletic ability or skills to be a factor playing center. He's tall and he's big and that's it. He has terrible hands, and can't make an uncontested shot from two feet using the backboard.
If you watched Cacok in the CAA tournament and NCAA tournament, he got to rebounds Getty's could have never gotten. He can also run the court and score in the post. Cacok will make everyone forget Gettys starting this year. I think he became confident in the post season, and is going to be aggressive on offense and defense from the start. I expect big things in his Sophomore season. Combined with Elmore at the 4, I think our post play will be vastly better than last year.

I love Cacok, and he was my favorite freshman from the start. But he can't shoulder the load of handling the 5 all on his own. He'll get tired. He'll get into foul trouble. So I don't agree that we will instantly forget Gettys.
Certainly Cacok would have passed Gettys on the depth chart, with relative ease. But CJ would have provided value late in games when trying to wear down opponents. Especially with his foul shooting abilities (an area Cacok struggled in during his freshman season).

Well, all of that is true. But don't underestimate the benefits of being tall and big...something the new-look Seahawks are not. Plumlee looked like an All-American matched up against our under-sized front line in the NCAAs. I really like the direction things are going....but the four guard lineup really has it's limitations as well.
