Only person hobling in that game was VV and even he played the majority of the game. The problem was, it was the WSU freshmans' first time in a "big" game. They just weren't ready for it and our offense was finally clicking.
Fred played, but he wasn't Fred. He had no business playing at all. The guy could barely get up and down the court and couldn't defend. It was painful watching him try, but the kid's a competitor.
You guys played great and I'm not trying to take that away, but we were a much different team when Fred was injured. We simply didn't have anyone ready to carry that load outside of Ron, but then he had no help because our FR weren't quite ready for that pressure.
This years game will be interesting. We should be more well rounded but we do have some PG concerns at the moment. But our talent inside and on the wings should be much stronger as a whole. If our JUCO PG can settle in, we will be just fine. Until he does, it could be interesting. Unless one of our FR who are currently recovering from injuries step up and surprise by taking over that role.
I'm just glad that the Tulsa/Wichita games started up again and would love to see it as a conference game in the future.

Does Wichita State have serious interest in the American? That would be a great move for both sides. Get it done Aresco!

I believe so. Only the MWC has had any publicity but the AAC fits what our president has talked about looking for in a new conference.
Outside of athletics, we're an urban, research university and would like to associate with other similar institutions. The AAC also allows access to both Oklahoma and Texas which we recruit pretty hard for students and athletes. We are now offering in-state tuition to students in the Tulsa, OKC and DFW metro areas. So having more exposure in those areas wouldn't hurt our desire for increased enrollment. We're currently a little under 15k but want to grow to over 20k so we're working on that.
Athletically, the AAC also makes more sense as trips to Tulsa, Dallas, Memphis and New Orleans are all fairly easy to pull off and are places that would be much more enjoyable that Cedar Falls, Carbondale and Terre Haute. The competition and exposure would also be much better.
So yes, I believe that we have a serious interest in the AAC and I feel confident that there has been some level of contact based on comments I've heard from President Bardo. Not saying direct talks with Aresco, but I have no doubt he's had contact with at least a few AAC presidents about all of this.

It would truly be awesome if you guys get in the American. I've always thought it would be an excellent addition.
As far as this years game, I would be surprised if we win this time. I think we may have some talent, but it's unproven and most of these guys haven't played a game together or even played a game at Tulsa for that matter. I'd expect the Shockers to take this one.

I'd say Tulsa has a chance to take it against WSU. Both teams are 'rebuilding' next season. The talent is certainly in place at 11th and Harvard. I'm more concerned with not having another embarrassing loss to ORU.

RE: New Tulsa Basketball Renderings....
A number of the players that will be on the floor this season were transfers and red-shirt freshmen last year. A bunch are new recruits. It will take a while for them to gel. But this team will also be much more balanced inside and out. As many as Tulsa lost to graduation, anything above .500 will be looking pretty good. This is virtually almost a new team. Will be tough at first.

RE: New Tulsa Basketball Renderings....
We have a lot of new guys ourselves.
Returning
C - Shaq Morris
PF - Rashard Kelly
SF - Markis McDuffie (MVC Freshman of the Year)
SG - Landry Shamet (Redshirt FR due to injury early last year)
CG - Conner Frankamp (Wasn't eligible until after 1st semester due to transfer rules)
C - Rauno Nurger (didn't play against you last year as he was going to redshirt but had to play after injuries mounted. Sill played little)
SG/SF - Zach Brown
PF - Eric Hamilton (Played very little and doesn't look to play much this year either.)
So we really return only 5 with any real experience. Frankamp should end up coming off of the bench but that depends on our JC PG picking things up. Kelly might start at PF, but we have a JC guy competing for that sport with him.
We have 5 that are new or didn't play at all last year, 6 if you want to count Shamet who I think played three games.
Being early, it sounds like neither one of us will know what to really expect from our teams. We have a ton of talent, but a lot of it is very young. Not a single scholarship SR on the team this year. We should be led by McDuffie and Shamet with Morris anchoring the inside.
I always look forward to our games. I was too young to really take in what the rivalry was when you were in the MVC, but we haven't had one like it since you left.

Definitely not Big 12 worthy. Lately not even up to snuff for the Sun Belt

Does Wichita have plans to start up football again?
We miss some of the stunts they would pull back in the day. The best was probably claiming that the starting QB was injured then putting him in wearing another guy's jersey. Those were the days.
It is being analyzed as we speak. We had a report released back in June giving us a financial perspective of things and it appears very doable if the big donors believe football is good for them and Wichita. Last I heard from our president is they're still looking into everything but are waiting to see what the XII does. He wants football on campus. It sounds like we will be bringing it back but are waiting to see how things shake out before officially announcing it and establishing a plan. I'm hopeful that is because we've been talking to the AAC and they will have a certain plan for us to follow depending on who may leave. But that's my own personal speculation from trying to read between the lines.
But the XII decision will affect us in some way.

Cessna Stadium is still standing isn't it? Best of luck moving up to the AAC. WSU Basketball and Baseball would be worthy additions will the football program gets on it's feet again.

Cessna is very much still standing. It had some renovation and code upgrades a while back as it's still home to track and field. It also hosts some HS football and has on occasion hosted some top level JUCO football. Though some of that will change if football returns.
