RE: Big 12 Expansion
The AAC won't implode-I'd imagine they would snag Southern Miss, Marshall, NIU and maybe another Texas school (UNT or UTSA) or if Memphis gets snagged they may want MTSU for the Nashville market

The commissioner of the B12 said he is going to start reaching out to gauge schools interest in joining the B12.
Well I can tell you that if the B12 commissioner contacts any Sun Belt School the AD of said school would be very interested.

There is nothing here that makes it sound like this is imminent.
Quote:Big 12 leaders have acknowledged that none of the available schools is a natural fit. None is guaranteed to deliver both highly competitive teams -- especially football teams -- as well as large new markets to increase the value of future media deals.
Is there any one school that enough Big 12 members could agree on? That's the question.
One more thing to consider...does anyone here (other than maybe Texas State fans) really want to be in CUSA if they get raided by the AAC?

A big question is if the big 12 does take 4 teams (which would most surely reignite a realignment phase) could this actually open the doors for a SBC/CUSA merger?

I hope not.

I doubt the AAC implodes. The only thing that might explode out of this is CUSA, especially if we see three or four CUSA teams move to the AAC. You might see some airport meetings if that happened.

If that happens any way we take a team or two?

Not necessarily CUSA. With deregulation even if CUSA lost 4, they could still sit at 10 teams. AAC loses 3 or 4 teams they have to add at least 1 program to mantain
If they lost the "bigs" like USM or Marshall it would be interesting to see if we could entice some to defect
Also if somehow Boise goes big 12 that would be great news for NMSU

No, but if CUSA lost Southern Miss and Marshall, you might begin to hear a little merger talk. I doubt it goes far, but I can't imagine ODU being happy without Marshall, nor UTEP and Rice being happy without Southern Miss.

Memphis, Cincy, Boise, and NIU to the B12.
Marshall to the MAC.
NMSU to the MWC.
USM and either UTSA or Ga State to the AAC.
If Ga State, the Sun Belt will add JMU.

Georgia State is not heading to the AAC, lets get that reality out of our heads now. I could see Georgia State taking a CUSA invite though. It makes sense for them, they identify more with MTSU and WKU than the rest of us do. If that happens, we might just call NMSU and be done with it.

Eastern schools aren't going to prefer NMSU over JMU.

After the B12 unleashes their carnage on others - do you think that UMass will get invited to the AAC? How about Stony Brook to the MAC?

I think they will add four. At this point it is about trying to be locked in long term. Texas and Oklahoma aren't going to be happy with all these other conferences getting tv deals and not the b12

It'll be two unless they know something is on the horizon regarding a total P5 breakaway.

Well Houston is flirting with the pac12 and I could see Texas not being happy in such unstable water.

I think the "flirting" is to get Big 12 on the hook. Houston wants on the Big 12, make no mistake about it.
