While I think this as a "controversy" is relatively stupid. If this was a college essay said student would be in serious ****. I don't see how anyone can deny this as plagiarism.

Everybody (Rs & Ds) should stay worried. If you don't you may well lose when you could have won. But I don't think that this convention is going to provide a big bump. I doubt next week does either. Keeping America safe was suppose to be tonight's theme but it will overshadowed by this self-inflicted wound. Most people didn't watch CNN, Fox or MSNBC coverage all night long. They either tuned in when the networks picked up coverage at 10pm or not at all.

I think you are missing the point. It isn't that the speech fiasco is going to move the needle to the Ds. It is that a great opportunity for Trump to move the needle was wasted with this fiasco.
