Mark Warner wanted to retire 4 years ago and I expect he will be retiring soon. Jerry Benson is retiring. There are some key hires that will be made in the next 18-24 months.

Bold above (Outch)....was that intentional HH&C?

I seem to recall this timeframe from somewhere...

I did not put it in bold. I am sure they will find good folks to fill the rolls. I did neglect to talk about some Deans and also some good professors that will be retiring. Quite a bit of hiring needs to take place.

When CK and other VP leaders retire, it should be used as an opportunity to reassess the administrative structure, tweak roles and responsibilities and reorganize, perhaps even have the AD report to .....? Hmmmm who should he report to?

Bingo! I thought that would happen when Rose left but for some reason we stuck with the same archaic, unorthodox reporting structure.

I know... The Controller, right? No, what about head of Internal Audit? One of those has to be right.

The reporting structure at JMU is entirely pro-forma with the exception of the AD reporting to the VP of Administration, and even that exception is not that strange.

The AD will report to the President once CK retires.

Go find and report back to us how many other AD's at this level and above have to directly report to anyone other than the President of their University. JMU's unique and baffling structure has provided me with many laughs while spending time with some friends that actually know how the real world of big time college sports are run

Thank you for clarifying LH, really don't know what we'd do without you. Unfortunately, just about everything that JMU does is ass backwards, including the way our president wears his cowboy hats.

Wow, is the whole board always from one general region like that? I know Clarksville's a ways away, but the others are all either Fairfax or Loudoun County folks.

They really are the worst. Can't even believe you associate with one of them.

I don't get the difference between our AD reporting to the CFO versus the President.

While I agree it's different, I don't know that the structure has effected us athletically in any way. You could argue if athletics teamed with athletics that could make for a stronger force.

An extra layer that potentially filters, shapes and spins information that gets to the President.

I was a longtime resident of Loudoun County. Was just poking fun as Hyper and I have made jokes in past about it.

Oh I'm not saying anything negative about it. I'm certainly not hurt or offended by it. I just thought it would make for some good humor; three JMU fans "ripping" on LoCo and saying they wouldn't associate with them, and then someone within their midst is a resident. Perhaps I missed the mark. Happens pretty often to me.

So, weren't the BOV supposed to discuss whether or not to extend Alger's contract at the last meeting? Any news on that?

Perhaps it is time to send some emails to some new people? Lara Major looks to have an educational background, so maybe she is someone that can provide an accurate take on the academic results under Alger's leadership?
