RE: Rice vs USM - CUSA Championship game
B9: Sandlin pitching.

JP: "Sandlin is a dandy" 3-3 record; low 2-something ERA.43 Ks in 40.1 innings pitched.

Gray: Drops single into short right! (1-0 count).
Tekyl: Ball. Foul. Dribbled foul. Off the end of the bat ... F-7 (1-2 count).
Lewis: "Pitch comes inside for the strike. Just nibbled the inside corner. ... Grounder right side for a base hit!"

DiCaprio: "Pitch is swung on and missed." "Looped back foul." Swing and a miss. They went after him."

"It's down to Dayne Wunderlich."

- "Swing and a miss; well outside."
- "Misses for a ball."
- "Driven in the air, left field. ... Lewis will try to score. The throw is cut off. He's out at the plate." ("Two relay throws.")

"The Rice Owls' streak has come to an end."

Earlier in the inning, JP hadmentioned that Lewis could not run as fast as usual due to his injured thigh.

Great story about the Sandlin brothers.

Older transfers to USM as a 5th year graduate student so he can play with his younger brother, the USM closer. First time they've ever been on a team together.

You can see why this kid is good. Must be a nightmare AB for righties with that slider.

Are you kidding me? He sent him. On a ball cut off in the gap, with an average runner. I might be in the minority, but I don't think you can send him there, especially with the D SMiss had been playing.

Bad decision. Congrats to USM for making the play and winning. A double relay no less. Gave ourselves a chance to win. The throw from the SS wasn't good but the 1B was in the right place.

Well, all good things must come to an end. Incredibly remarkable that the baseball program has been able to sustain this type of success in its conference(s). Hopefully we can start another conference championship streak next year, but it's more important that we figure out what needs to be done to get this program back to being in Omaha.

What a way to end it. Without seeing the play, it's better than ending with a bat in his hands...

That was a textbook perfect double relay. If they don't make both throws, we tie it. Good game.

RE: Rice vs USM - CUSA Championship game
When it was hit and where it was hit with 2 outs I thought we could score both but the OF'er did a great job getting to the ball and getting it to the SS...at that point I would have thought the stop sign would have gone up since the SS got the ball that quickly. Hard to believe that was intentional as a double cut since the SS wasn't all that deep.

Odds of the run scoring are probably similar to the next batter getting a hit. Not going to second guess it.

True, and wasn't today the highest scoring of the bunch?

I know we only won one of our 4 meetings but on into the NCAAs I like our chances in the low scoring games like these.

Good job USM and really props to the entire conference on a great season... Let's all keep it up.

Great conference tournament performance considering how tense all the games were. Solid coaching decisions by Graham today. I still think we have a chance to win a regional under the right conditions but Salinas is going to have to get back to where he was a month ago.

Probably should pitch Fox now to open the regional.

Congrats to USM.

The streak is over, but I'd be more happy if we ended another streak (consecutive years without having gone to CWS) instead.

RE: Rice vs USM - CUSA Championship game
Great effort by the entire team to the very end. Rice fight never die. Hard to believe the difference was two wild pitches (and a couple very untimely double plays). Having said that, as sorry as I am to see The Streak end, it would have been highly unlikely we would have copped a regional host site regardless, as TCU has us beat in almost every resume category, not to mention the head-to-head.

Amador had his best effort in 6 weeks, and probably was left in one or two batters too long (not an uncommon occurrence for us). And Big Jon was back to his old self-- his stuff was electric. He just made two mistake pitches, both times when he was ahead in the count. And, not surprisingly, both times we walked the leadoff man today, that man scored.

Proud of the boys as they gave it their all. It's so much easier losing a well-played game as this one than those slugfest losses vs. LaTech.

So, do they send us to Lubbock, College Station or Baton Rouge?
