Big 12 "tried" the Colorado experiment with the much more higher profiled Univ (Boulder), which never really brought any more $$ or exposure for the conf...so I don't see the Big 12 going back to that state for CSU that's located 65 miles north of Denver.

Heck, the Air Force Academy is located closer to Denver than CSU.

RE: Influential UT Alum, Red McCombs, backs UH to the Big 12
I 4 one have repeatedly said
no way Houston gets a Big 12 bid
as long as Texas is in the Big 12

But..........
Alot of rumblings going on
w/ the Shorthorns, Cowboy, Toads,
& Bloomer fan boards
about the seriousness of all the known & unknown
allegations going on w/in the Baylor AD Dept
Include more alleged assault & rape victims
then what has been publicly "leaked"

This could B a HUGE embarrassment 4 the Big 12
as the NFL has cracked down on intolerance towards
rape &/or assault perpetrators
the Big 12 might have 2 follow suit.

Many are calling for Art Briles & Ken Starr 2 B axed
as well as a movement 2 perhaps
look @ kicking Baylor out of the Big 12
or @ least put the entire AD dept
on a "Penn St" type of probation.

That Big 12 invite 4 Houston
just might B tied 2 Baylor 's Self-Implosion.

A couple of recent articles to chew on.....

Yeah we should try getting Air Force to join! Aresco and Bowlesmovementby: why didn't you think of that? Ok ok but yeah, CSU probably wouldn't move the needle much. Let's see how the new OCS does for them.
Cheers!

"We don't want UC, UH or Memphis. They are city colleges and are big commuter schools. Nobody goes to their games. Give me Colorado State or Boise State. They are state schools".

Dear Lord that is hilarious!!!!

We have the second most beds on campus in the State (more than A&M, Tech, Baylor, TCU, Etc.) the commuter label is old. Do we have commuters? Of course we do and we always will but the tide has turned when it comes to living on campus.

Nobody goes to their games? Like you said man go look at the attendance numbers at CSU. If numbers like this impress them it only proves how dysfunctional the B12 is: 2015 24,916 avg, 2014 26,575 avg, 2013 18,599 avg, 2012 19,250 avg, 2011 21,867 avg. Using UH as an example (because go figure I have the numbers handy) we have a 29,406 average over the same period, and that was with a stadium capacity of 32k for 3 of those years. Not numbers I really brag about but the upward trend is there and we now have the capacity.

But I digress...... Anyone who thinks a school with a "plan" for a stadium. A school that is a low 20k program. A school that is 32-32 in the last 5 years (UH again because I have those numbers handy.... is 47-19 in the same span)...... and on and on. Needs some help!

I need to just stop CSU makes no sense. BYU with all their issues though I cant really see a problem if they work those out.

Bottom line BYU yes, CSU....03-lmfao

So what youre saying is that CSU averaged about what you would expect a MWC school to average. After all realignment is about attendance and record...said nobody ever...

Right............. There is a long list I grant you but your kidding yourself if you think those two are not on the list.

I just stopped making my point to avoid a long pointless manifesto.

There exists a list of "requirements" that in essence is the unattainable carrot for all the G5. Basically it's an "excuse" list on why your not worthy.

Oh you average 50k (ECU) well sorry we have that part of the county covered.

Oh your AAU (Rice) sorry you don't average a decent high school crowd.

Oh you are in the what will soon be the 3rd largest city in the country (UH) oh you are a "commuter" school.

And on and on........

All any G5 can hope is to check off enough of the list and be available when (if) the call comes.

Schools like CSU just have too many what ifs and maybes. We (UH) got a bad rep for that line of thinking and spent too many years feeling sorry for ourselves. We learned that hard way we just need to do what needs to be done. Nobody is handing out any P5 tickets just because. Cough (CSU) cough.........

I will go with how many period. Because it's a big town and Notre Dame is number one in alumni followed by Illinois and then a few B1G schools.

Oh wrong thread. LOL. But still applies. There are those who will become active to watch Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor.

Sounds like the same think any G5 says. Its a non-starter.

Nobody is going to get an invite for 50k inactive (well a portion of 50k being inactive) alumni that might come watch a game against Oklahoma.

It's a proven fact (since we were in the SWC) that our numbers would go up even if it was only the visiting schools buying tickets. It wouldn't just be them in our case.

One of our problems (still being worked on but light years ahead of what it was 20 years ago) is disinterest in anything but good matchups. If we were in the B12 tomorrow we wouldn't average less than capacity (ours is 42k now). that said we are floating around 30k now which is a great leap forward for a program that hovered around 18k for the better part of a decade when the SWC folded.

We have and are addressing our attendance issues and it paying dividends. Its not a hope and pray situation. Like I said we know our numbers would go up but we are waiting for the golden goose to lay us an egg. You have to build your own legacy.

To sum you can't use the excuse if you built it they will come..... you have to come first.

That is very hard in big cities and you better handle anyone should know it. It takes generations. In Atlanta people are very fair weather in a huge city. If you're not winning I'm not interested.

Exactly my point. They aren't inviting someone where they are subsidizing them in fans in the stands, TV money, Etc.

For any school there will amount to a certain amount of subsidy somewhere, but from a business aspect you aren't going to be willing to pay the whole bill so to speak and be asked to say thank you for the privilege....

They want someone who brings something to the table, or at the very least (and I mean the very least) isn't a drain on the conference.

Tale care of most of that "list" on your own and you "might" get a call.

Right now CSU has a plan for a stadium, "some" proximity to Denver, and an inactive alumni base to sell. Not very appealing to a P5 conference.

Not to be a prickly pear, but the new stadium is being built now & is scheduled to host the inaugural FB game in Sept 2017 (stadium.colostate.edu). More than a plan at this point.

I don't know how the TV wizards determine markets, but CSU is roughly one hour from Denver. Fort Collins and surrounding municpalities total >350K. This doesn't explain why CSU has low season ticket holders in the revenue sports, but it shows untapped markets beyond the mirage of Denver. Season tickets in revenue sports are on a strong upswing over the past few years.

We had a 'lost decade' for FB in which our near-deity Coach Lubick wouldn't/couldn't fire mediocre/poor assistants, and his replacement (the near-universally-reviled Steve Fairchild) fielded teams with talent but horrid coaching schemes. At the same time, our mens BB coach was not the top of the heap, and when he somehow managed to win the conference tourney (securing a spot in the NCAAs), he was given a much-too-long extension.

All this and $5 will get me a cup of java. Suffice it to type, conference expansion has much to do with the variables we throw out here on these sites -- athletic success, season tickets, TV markets -- as well as dozens (hundreds?) of things about which we know nothing.

Fair enough last I saw a year ago it was still not a thing yet. That said is 40k your max? If so you'll need to have plans in place for 10-20k more is it will be a viable P5 stadium. Our stadium slightly larger than yours was prebuilt with both 10 and 20k expansions in the plans and footings and all the utilities already in place for a single off season construction.

I feel your pain we were there once.

Suffice it to type, conference expansion has much to do with the variables we throw out here on these sites -- athletic success, season tickets, TV markets -- as well as dozens (hundreds?) of things about which we know nothing.

Agreed wasn't really trying to slam CSU just too may schools with too much already in hand (not coming or promised) for them to be a viable candidate in my opinion.

That and I just don't see the value of the Colorado market but that is my opinion not me stating a fact.
