I've watched for 25 years as the University of Idaho has taken the path of least resistance at every possible opportunity. And I'm not just talking about athletics here. It's not that the school tries and fails, it's that it doesn't even try. The state and committed people spent 100 years building a fine university, and inept leadership has been tearing it down bit by bit ever since. Athletics are just the most visible part of a systemwide problem.

I can't take it anymore. At this point, the only avenue I have left to voice my displeasure is to close my wallet and tell them why. So that's what I'm doing. And I'm far from alone. Many who've given a lot more generously for a lot longer than I have are doing the exact same thing.

Walk a mile in our shoes before you start lecturing us on who's a fan and who isn't.

One (not the only) common aspect of Idaho, EMU and NMSU. Bad geography. Makes a difference. Location, location, location...

We've had our share of incompetence and more. I've had my share of going to work on Monday and being badgered fans of another school. We've had our share of misery.

The difference is that what we went through didn't climax in voluntarily dropping to a lower classification.

That is a whole new level. I'm not sure I could swallow that one myself.

And the stuff about Idaho being better off in the long run is real easy to say when its not your school.

Thanks. I'm past Denial and deep into Anger right now, but when I get to Bargaining I'm sure I'll start to believe we can get the current crop of idiots fired and replace them with some new people who'll walk this crap back. Then I'll get drunk and move into Depression for a while, and finally, while I'm on the golf course during an Idaho football game, Acceptance. It's all laid out for me.

Sorry to hear Vandals. Glad we got to send some time in the WAC and SBC together. Best of luck and hope to see y'all again one day.

Hey Teis look at what happens when the administration wings it and doesn't give an eff.

Walked in those shoes.
Paid for tickets and paid into the booster club when we were sending teams to play multiple money games and didn't even have 63 players on scholarship (the FCS limit) even though we were FBS. Watched a fourth year coach win one game and not get fired because we could come up with $400k to get rid of him.

Saw an AD have take $350,000 of a $500,000 payout and send it to a P5 school because he had not checked all of the files when he got the job and had scheduled a game the same day as another game and have to buy his way out of the other game.

Had a coach who lived in a hotel room get a DWI and eventually fired. AD tried to hire a coach and the board refused to approve the contract. Hired Ray Perkins who quit 8 days before signing day because they refused to make him the new AD. He was told no coach would ever be AD. The next coach Bobo at one point offered to turn down a raise and extension if they would just give the assistants more money. He was replaced by Joe Hollis who ended up also serving as AD and his top two assistants made more than Bobo. He was fired the Sunday before a Thanksgiving Day game shortly after he was diagnosed with cancer. Announcement was delayed so he could tell the team but never did. Press release went out in the third quarter and the national media reported "coach with cancer fired at halftime"

Watched as the hoops coach who had bombed and attendance was falling go out of contract and get a new contract for less money because a couple guys who had the president's ear liked the coach and in the process killed a streak of being in the top 100 in hoops attendance.

Watched football get saved by a truly resounding 3-2 vote.

Yeah I've seen some **** and still put my money in.

This the fourth trip down. Idaho is made out of cork. Maybe next time their administration won't doom the trip by squandering success. Idaho was good when they moved up and won the Big West. The opportunity was there and no one did anything to build on it.

As I said in another post I cannot imagine the awful of being around Boise fans but the foundation for this was laid years ago.

I could give you a list of equivalent Idaho stories but the difference here is, our frustration is not confined to athletics. The university as a whole has been sliding in the wrong direction for decades and nobody in charge gives a crap.

Politicians and university administrators are motivated by fear and greed. If we keep blindly handing them our money no matter how many lazy, short-sighted things they do nothing is ever going to change. If this isn't the place to draw a line in the sand, I don't know where it might be.

Look, I can't tell who your team is our if you have one.

And I'll give the Big Sky summer credit. They are probably currently the best FCS CONFERENCE left standing. There are a lot of winning traditions and championships in that group. Montana, Montana State, Eastern Wash ,Youngstown and obviously the new kid on the block NDSU. EVEN Idaho State had a National championship.

FCS PLAYOFFS

I don't know anything about their current attendance levels, but with the addition k of Idaho I have little doubt that at least the teams listed above could hold their own on the field with many FBS teams. You COULD possibly make an FBS conference at some point out of that group if they make some rule changes. (Not likely though)

Idaho joining that group of football isn't nearly the disaster it would be for us or app to go back to what the Southern conference has become. Although there are still a couple of good ones in there.

BUT...
OVERALL, to say that the current Sun Belt is a lateral move? Once upon a time perhaps, but that is a fairy tale now.

His team is UTA, who last played a down in November of 1985. Many are saying it sucks that Idaho is dropping down. One went as far as saying dropping football would be better than dropping to FCS. At UTA, we disagree and would gladly play in the Big Sky.

Welcome back, Idaho.

As someone who started school in the 80's, I miss Idaho, Nevada and Boise. I almost went to Idaho (accepted, had an academic scholarship offer from the Forestry department), but choose NAU instead.

http://www.championshipsubdivision.com/forums/index.php is more Big Sky centric, more relaxed and easier to blow off steam on (yes, cursing is allowed).

One year we made a big leap in US News rankings. My son interviewed the acting chancellor to find out why. The person charged with answering the form letter was just copying prior year's answers, he made them update it. He didn't get the gig full time but he's pro athletics and is at LSU-Alexandria if you are shopping. 04-cheers

Politicians and university administrators are motivated by fear and greed. If we keep blindly handing them our money no matter how many lazy, short-sighted things they do nothing is ever going to change. If this isn't the place to draw a line in the sand, I don't know where it might be.
One year we made a big leap in US News rankings. My son interviewed the acting chancellor to find out why. The person charged with answering the form letter was just copying prior year's answers, he made them update it. He didn't get the gig full time but he's pro athletics and is at LSU-Alexandria if you are shopping. 04-cheers

Sound like potentially the best employee Idaho has had in 2 decades.
