Hoops news: Robert Kirby could return to fill LSU Basketball’s assistant coach vacancy

I guess lsu needs someone to miss 8 months with a kidney stone and then not recruit anybody

Or was that aki? Who knows anymore?

That's a little unnecessary isn't it?

Well my mom had a kidney stone at age 86 and was out of the hospital in 3 days. Not doubting whether he had a kidney stone but it's funny how it all happened right after he got into a fight with Kuran Iverson. And then at the end of the season he was basically fired. Thank God the tendinitis , Achilles , concussions and kidney stones are now in Atlanta

Yeha, but Kirby wasn't the one with the "kidney stones" at all, was he? Hell, we ought to be giving Kirby a medal for serving our fine University while having to put up with Pastner all this time.

Kirby stayed because he made $300K+ per yr - and I'm betting he'll make less at LSU.

Does the head coach dictate the pay scale out of the total amount that the boosters/school pays or what?

I don't see a $300K guy in the group.

Maybe Keelon.

From Calkins today ...
"I had G.G. Smith -- Tubby's son, and the head coach at Loyola of Maryland -- on my radio show today. He didn't talk specifics, but said it will all work out. He also said Smith plans to bring Zo Goodson to Memphis. Goodson was the director of basketball operations at Texas Tech. So we now know the staff will include Williamson and Goodson, in some capacities. It appears it will also include Joe Esposito and Saul Smith. As for Lawson? It's always an adventure at Memphis. Stay tuned."

Texas Tech director of basketball ops Steven "Zo" Goodson is following Tubby to Memphis, G.G. Smith says on @929espn.

About the same time Kuran had the "concussion" that took 4 months to heal that no one ever saw?

Mhmm - worst concussion ever.
...and Will Coleman didn't run into a door either.

My guess is, it would be hard for him to leave them all behind in Lubbock and risk being replaced by a new coach. Plus, this looks like his "team" and he may want to keep his team of coaches together. Here is a link to their resumes.

In looking at the Tech roster....five players are from the DFW area and four of those appear to be recruits Tubby's staff signed. Texas Tech would be a good match for those players....not sure if Memphis matches up as well with DFW recruits as Tech does.
Here is a link to the TEXAS TECH roster.

RE: Tubby's Assistant Coaches
Forcing an assistant on a head coach that he didn't want and over whom he would have little authority would probably be a good move if you were trying to run off the head coach. Suggesting that he speak with him about a possible position on staff would be a much better method if you weren't. But then, it would be his call, and rightly so. I don't think you bring in a guy to run the program and then put him over a barrel like that if you're looking for good, long-term relationships. Just my opinion.

Whatever Tubby decides, he must weight the short term and long term implications of this decision. Seems pretty simple to me - Lawson is the 3rd assistant. Hey Tubby... WELCOME TO MEMPHIS!

This is what happens when you let people who have no clue about the local demographic make decisions. It's never going to change either

Does anyone here know if this back and forth is truly the case or just speculation based on Dedric's decision to enter the draft? I mean, has Tubby or anyone with the university even hinted that there's a problem? Just wondering.
