This will be Tubby's last roundup. Hope he's thinking that Memphis can provide the opportunity to show he's still got something left.

Shows how much of a joke Texas Tech basketball is throughout its history as well as how much better Memphis basketball is. I don't know who the AD of TT, is but I would think that having their coaches for G5 jobs must be annoying at some point.

We hired Tech's head football coach back in the 80s too....Rex Dockery. He started to turn out program around but unfortunately died in a plane crash after his second season in Memphis. If he'd lived the Memphis football program might've been drastically different over the last 30 years.

Definitely a good hire but I was totally expecting someone with a bit more flash, especially with the names Gregg Marshall and Buzz Williams being thrown around.

There is no doubting Tubby from an X’s and O’s standpoint, the guy has proven he could coach, it’s just that like Dunphy at Temple how well does a guy in his mid-60’s relate to todays 17 year old AAU player and their “handlers”? I guess time will tell.

In all seriousness it's a good hire for Memphis I just have always been underwhelmed by Tubby but there is no question he will run a clean ship and get wins

He's a pretty good floor coach. If he can recruit Memphis well or hire a local recruiter I think he'll do fine.

The Memphis board is up in arms with a resounding NO.

Wow. I'm not sure if I completely agree with that fit for Memphis. No disrespect to Tubby Smith - he has a ton of accomplishments and accolades to his name, runs a clean program, as professional as they come - but, with the expectations that Memphis has (which many, including myself, could easily say it's a top-25 job in the country), is this really the best fit they could get?

Tubby has not advanced to the Sweet 16 since 2005 - over 10 years ago. He has missed the NCAA tournament completely five times since 2008 - ever since he left Kentucky. He was fired from Kentucky. He was fired from Minnesota. Memphis fans, rightfully, have been left disappointed when they don't make the tournament - but that's what Tubby, on average in the past 10 years, has done. Some would even argue that he is at the end of the road as a head coach (he will be 65 when next season starts).

I realize both Marshall and Buzz were long shots. I guess I just never realized that Tubby would have been a legit candidate for them.
