RE: Spring game Saturday
The Glass Joe reference does not fit IMO. He took some vicious hits. Remember the hit that put him out of the Memphis game? Most of the hits the QBs took according to commentary I heard from Tony Pike last season were caused by them holding on to the ball too long and trying to make something happen. They played extremely hard IMO and to make fun of the players getting injured is just wrong; especially by "fans".

That isn't really how an offense should work. Seems like Hinshaw and Gran would be coaching them up on that. I remember watching the games and noticing how incredibly long it took for Gran's plays to develop. We had some of the finest receivers in the country, so it wasn't a talent issue.

Kind of "Glass Joe" was the name of a character in an old video game and was the 1st opponent you faced on your quest for the championship. As Coop stated you could knock him out quickly in the 1st round. In the game you face increasingly tougher opponents. So Glass Joe had a Glass Jaw.
Edit: The name of the game/arcade game was Punch Out

Biggest issue I had all of last year was the lack of attacking the middle of the field on passing plays. The sideline routes took too much time and netted on more than one occasion a very bad int for a pick 6. In the Memphis game, UC attacked the seams vertically and got huge plays, Memphis couldn't cover the WR's. Look back at some of the losses, in many of those games, UC might have thrown 1 or 2 balls in the seam the entire game. Typically, when they called for a seam route, it netted a big play. UC had superior talent at WR and didn't really take advantage of it IMO.

I got all the way to Tyson in the NES Punchout version and had Tyson on the ropes but lost. I never had him on the ropes again and never beat him, One of the few NES games I never beat!!!!

Also, Shaq was/is a fantastic route runner with incredible football knowledge. How do you not let that guy wreak havoc in the center of the field with crossing routes and slants?

Agreed. I know we talked about it during the season, but the routes were needlessly overcomplicated at times. There were many times on 3rd and 3 where we threw a 12 yard out route from the far hash. And to his credit, many times Gunner would hit that throw. But there's no need to require your QB to make an NFL caliber throw when all you need is a few yards to move the chains. And I think the timing really got to Moore as the season went on. He got hit a lot in that BYU game which really started to mess with him mentally IMO. He started holding onto the ball longer waiting for the routes to develop and waiting for the guy to come totally wide open not trusting the routes (but then also anticipating the pass rush). And I think it just shook his confidence more and more. He seems like more of a rhythm passer - quick throws (slants, hitches, TE seam routes, RB flares, etc) and then let him throw deep fade or post. But I think he's going to struggle with very precise timing routes. Hopefully the new staff tailors the playcalling to his skillset.

I agree with your assessment. That being said, we have a new offensive coordinator, will be running a different offensive scheme and don't have the WR's we had last year now. Taylor will emphasize the quarterback quickly getting rid of the football. Most of the plays will develop 15 yards from the line of scrimmage as opposed to just going vertical 40 yards down field. Due to our inexperience at WR we will need to rely on the plays are your taking about (slants, hitches, TE seam routes, RB flares, etc.).

That's the kind of offense I like to watch. Love watching someone like Tom Brady march down the field 5-15 yards at a time in the no-huddle. The defense never catches their breath.
That's what I do in Madden when I'm playing people and it quickly overwhelms them. You'll hear them start cussing on the headset.

You could say the same thing about McKay as well... We seem to repeat the same conversations.

RBI Baseball on the NES is STILL my all time favorite baseball game. The Show or whatever they have now on PS4/XBOX1 can't hold RBI's jock (if a video game in fact wore a jock).
