RE: about speaking vaguely
I work in the public sector and I frequently encounter people with no knowledge of my job, who tell me how I should do it. Im not very fond of those people and I dobut Ingram is.

It's called CYA...and we all do it.

Ingram could know for a fact that Eshan is the direction he wants to go, but what will it look like if Eshan doesn't work out and Ingram didn't even so much as interview anyone else? I can tell you what would happen....#fireingram

At any other time in our history, I'm betting that we'd all be demanding that the AD perform interviews at the Final Four while there.

RE: about speaking vaguely
We have used a search firm for all of our recent hires in basketball. The fact that we are not using one now tells me that the decision has already been made and there is no reason to throw money away. Other candidates have to be interviewed for the reasons given above.

This should be a no brainer hire for him. Let's see if he can shake his nickname.

The nickname he was given around the same time he got hired, for no clearly stated reason? That's around the same time some "fans" started personally insulting the guy because of his weight. I'm glad we hold our fanbase in such high esteem compared to some of the other ones in this state.

I'm assuming it's the "Fumbles" nickname I've heard used. I have no idea what the origin of it is. I should walk back my comments about the weight insults. People on here make jokes about his love for doughnuts. Perhaps there's nothing malicious behind the jokes but I took it otherwise.

Your complaint reminds me of a quip made by a coach at the B'ham Touchdown Club years ago. "There are three things every man thinks he can do better than anyone else. One is to drive a car, another is make love to a woman and the third is to coach football". I have found over years that the #3 spot depends upon whatever job the person has to do.

I'm sorry you feel so empathetic for a man making 400k that hasn't exactly impressed the Blazer faithful.

It's not even that. For the most part I'm indifferent to Ingram. He really hasn't done enough or had the opportunity to do enough for me to form an opinion on what kind of job he's doing. Regardless I see no need to personally insult the man about something that has no bearing on his ability to do his job.

RE: about speaking vaguely
No insider knowledge. Just the view from section 216.

I said (before I'd ever heard of Mark Ingram) that you'd have to be batshit crazy to take this job in the toxic environment that Punkin Head (name-calling, again, I know) Watts had created. Then when he WAS hired, I noted that his forte was purportedly fund-raising, and I believed (remember, we didn't have a football team) that it would take every trick he knew to get a seriously pissed off, alienated fanbase off its collective checkbook.

We raised one hell of a lot of it without him, but it's kept pouring in, and I frankly don't know how much credit he deserves for that.

I thought signing Clark took too damn long.

I thought the PA announcement about finding another window when the concession stands backed up was smarmy and insulting, but then I noticed he said it would get better and it got better.

In articles I see about the resurrection of football, I frequently see him quoted with the same refrain, "nobody cared, and now they do". As someone who has dragged himself and his family to some of the most miserable football God saw fit to allow played on the skin of this earth for 20 ******* years, I found that damned insulting.

Will all due respect, good sir, you weren't here and and have no ******* idea what went on during that time.

I really liked you giving UAB t-shirts to people in gumpanalia at basketball games. I really did.

I understand that you walk a fine line between Watts, the old money thugs, and us ticket-buying rabble. I don't have any answers for you, and I'm sorry you didn't feel more good will when you got here, but you can thank your boss and his bosses for that.

I still don't envy you. If you gave everyone what they wanted and named Ehsan tomorrow, and he sucked, it would be your fault. That's a lot of pressure, but then I don't make almost half a million dollars a year.

You moved your family to Birmingham. That's not easy. Having this crowd for a fanbase can't be, either, but remember, we come by it honest, and you'd be wise to remember that. Don't talk to us as if we are stupid. Don't poo poo either our anger or our angst. And don't ******* ignore us.

Interest and support for UAB sports is at an all-time high. Don't squander it.

I still think you'd have to be batshit crazy to want this job.

Smaug out.

+1 - sums up a lot of my feelings. I've not met/seen too much of Ingram but have seen some improvement in some areas but not so much in others but generally speaking, he seems to be stepping out on his own a bit. Maybe Watts kept a tight reign on him at first but now allows him more leeway so we can really see how good or bad he'll be.

It's a Robot Chicken reference. Credit to FN.

If Ingram can bring a good doughnut to Birmingham, much will be forgiven.

I disagree on one point. If he hires Ehsan, and Ehsan flops, most of us won't blame Ingram for it. It'll be on all of us.

If Ingram hires someone else, that guy's success and/or failure will be on Ingram, good or bad.
