Rudd, Bowen, Josh, Booster and the Statement
I can only hope that the administration and high rollers know what they are doing. I can't help but outline my thoughts on this:

Making necessary investments and changes. Not sure what that means.

Compete at highest level with Josh as our coach. Big XII?

So, the consensus of that group is that the Memphis basketball program is not worth $10 million dollars.

We are wanting, begging, praying to be invited to the Big XII. The way it looks from here is that we really don't have any money. I know we have one billionaire who does a lot. All the other "big shots" aren't such big shots, as it turns out. They are tapped out.

If/when we get invited to the Big XII, we are going to find out real fast what big shots really are. It will boggle the mind.

Again, I am putting my faith in this group that they have a plan based on knowledge that we don't.

I watched a lot of incredible basketball this weekend and we are so far behind I can't imagine how long it will take to dig out. It has been a long time since we've seen the Tigers play on Saturday or Sunday in the Big Dance.

I do think, next year is it for Josh if we don't strike lightning.

Totally disagree. They're not "tapped out;" they're just choosing not to spend their additional money on hiring a new coach this year....hopefully it's because they think they'll need to pay the AAC a buyout. Time will tell.

It may be because we are very close to an invite, why rock the boat by firing a "nice guy" when if you let his sorry ass stay for another year you avoid the risk of negative fallout that could derail what looks like a sure thing.03-shhhh

There's that as well, although I would hope the B12 would see getting rid of JP as just being smart, but...

If they are taking us with Josh at the helm for the last two years, then one more year with a joke on the sidelines probably won't do any harm. I'm not agreeing that it is a good move , just trying to make of sense of a nonsensical decision (to retain his sorry joke of a coach self)

You are a wise man.

Also throw in there the fact we are waiting on the state legislature to allow us our own board of trustees, and all the more reason to hold course for now.

There's a difference between "tapped out" and "voted down"

Think about it

yep, remember right now TBR has to approve all hires by the school. That would shift to our own board once we have one. Why introduce questions from TBR about why we're having to hire a new coach and pay $10M to the old one at the same time when you might not have to?

TBR usually rubber stamps any athletic department decisions, but there's some real animosity with them about the larger universities breaking off, so yeah - that could also be a factor.

TBR would only worry if state funds were being used. In this case it's private/corporate money

No one wants us to get into the Big XII more than I do. That being said, there is no way we are getting into the Big XII. We don't have the football tradition, basketball is currently worthless, and other than FedEx Forum, our facilities are crap. Why would the Big XII take us when there are so many other schools interested (Cincy, UConn, Boise ST, etc)?
