Good season no doubt, but i'm not into moral victories. We got beat.
I'm not either. It's a tough one to swallow but overall the guys played well.

Sure. But vegas had this as a double digit game and you guys had them within 2 possessions late. It is not about moral victories, its the fact you guys still did better than the experts thought and were within striking range of the win. You should be proud of that, even if you are not advancing further.

This big a foul discrepancy is tough to overcome. Agree with Len why keep the press on when time after time you give up layups, you obviously need a stop and the shot clock is not important at that juncture.

That about sums it up. If we could have gotten him out of the game earlier and kept our own bigs from committing silly fouls in a tightly called game, we would have had a better chance

If Chuck is not good enough to go in after two centers foul out then we need to move on

Who's scholly is Flemmings getting? If we have an extra, go after the Hargrave/WF transfer.

Really? Questioning the press defense that we've gone 30-11 with in CAA games the last 2 seasons?
We weren't going to stop what we were doing, especially when we were facing a team with basically a 6-man rotation, AND had 2 guys foul out by the time we hit the 2:00 mark. The press was not the reason we lost.

RE: UNCW/Duke NCAA game thread(man that feels good!)
The trap was ineffective in turning Duke over. Perhaps it sped up the game, but that isn't an advantage when the opponent is getting dunks after beating the pressure. I wish the whistle hadn't been as quick in the first half, and those two threes by Kennard and Ingram to close the half really swayed momentum.
However, I'm really proud of the team and the progress we've made in two short seasons. After a 10 year drought, it's hard to be disappointed with today's result. I think staying competitive with Duke will be a good thing on campus. 87% of our students are from Tobacco Road, and everyone across the state pulls for one of the big 4. Hopefully, this confirms what the few of us here know; Keatts is building something, we need student support, and we're capable of competing at a high level.
Moral victories may feel empty. I realize we don't speak of the loss to Cincinnati often, but that improbable trip to the tournament was instrumental to the success that followed from 01-06.
I can't wait for next year.

UNCW/Duke NCAA game thread(man that feels good!)
This is why I hate Duke fans:
I have a friend that graduated from Liberty. He has no academic ties at all to Duke. I hadn't texted him at all about the game. About 3/4 of the way through the 2nd half when Duke was milking their 8-10 pt leads I get this:
"Your team is really cute trying to hang on here."
I know every fan base has their bad apples but it seems like most Duke fans are just solidly in the douche category.

How Duke fans treated Elton Brand is a great example of just how sh*tty Duke fans are: http://deadspin.com/remember-when-a-duke...1696196818

My co worker is a Duke fan, also no ties to the school (except he's from Jersey, does that count), whining to me about the officials during the game after the Ingram block was called a foul. It was like 10-4 fouls at that point, i said really 10-4 fouls isn't enough for you?

Hate when the big story in a game like this is the officiating. But that's what happens when you play Duke. A lot of the enjoyment gets sucked out of the room.
Bottom line: We played as well as we could have and had a great season.

So pathetic. Just be happy your silly underperforming NCAA basketball royalty barely beat a 13 seed and try not to torment mid major fans. Is that simply too much to ask?

Yeah we did. There's no reason to be upset at this team. Played well above their weight class and put the scare in Duke.
This game serves as a good example of why teams like Duke are scared to play Mids away from home.

RE: UNCW/Duke NCAA game thread(man that feels good!)
Wow. Drove home from Trask, and all I can say is that place was insane. Could not have been any better If the teams were on the court. My guess is at least 1800 students in the building. WE ARE BUILDING SOMETHING.
Game take:
1. We need another center. My spidey senses tell me he will be a graduate transfer from Wake. Chuck needs to go and give up his scholarship. Gettys can only jump about 2 inches off the floor, so why does he jump every time he tries to block ac shot...especially with 4 fouls? DUMB.
2. Not a fan of Talley. Dribbles way too much, stands around on offense way too much. And as soon as he makes a good play, he thinks he's Michael Jordan and tries to take over a game...when he can't. He needs to stay within is game as a tough defender, an occasional driver, and a distributor to those who are scorers.
3. Diamond Denzel is CLUTCH. He makes huge shots time and time again. That NBA three that kept us in late was insane.
4. Dylan Sherwood PUSSED OUT. We were making a final run with Plumlee on the bench, and Ingram had just bombed a 3 to get us within five or four I think, and Sherwood passed up a WIDE OPEN 3 with about 25 seconds left. Instead, he passed the ball backwards, and forced one of our 6 foot tall guards to make something happen. Once in a lifetime chance, and he passed....
5. Duke had better players and size, but we had a better team and coach. The age old question is, could you take the other teams players and beat them. Give Keatts the Duke roster, and give K the UNCW players, and Duke would get SMOKED.
6. Remarkable year after a meteoric return to the top. Amazing, incredible, exciting and hate that it's over till' November.
7. I don't think Keatts leaves yet. No great reason, just my opinion.
8. What a great ending for Ponder. Ups and downs, but he has earned my respect with clutch play when it mattered.
7. CJ BRYCE - look out!

RE: UNCW/Duke NCAA game thread(man that feels good!)
Gotta say I'm surprisingly upbeat despite this loss. It hurts, but doesn't quite feel like the GW loss in 2006. Maybe its because I'm a little older, wiser, and slightly more patient. Maybe its because we didn't just see the end of a career of a guy like John Goldsberry.
More likely its because we weren't even supposed to be this good, this soon under Keatts. It was a missed opportunity today but I'm very excited about the future.

I feel good. We played hard and had a chance to win that game. And we are well ahead of the three year plan.

RE: UNCW/Duke NCAA game thread(man that feels good!)
You guys played very well. I actually picked you to win and thought it was very possible for much of the game. Much like how you dealt with Hofstra, I thought your style would wear Duke down. As for the future, I cannot imagine that you won't be the favorites next year. 2 excellent years under Keatts. I do agree that all the top teams in our conference need to do everything they can to upgrade the nonconference schedule as much as possible. If not several P5 games, then games with the Big East, AAC and A10. I would love to see a couple CAA schools in a holiday tourney over Thanksgiving or in December. I might be dreaming, but I think 4-5 of our schools are very capable going forward. To change the profile of the league overall, we need sustained success and several programs that raise the league. UNCW is doing its part with everything but the nonconference. Worst case scenario, if the CAA stays a one bid league, we can still gain valuable court time with the major programs. Congrats on a great season!
